Special Statement
Issued: 03:44 AKDT Sep. 28, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Strong northerly winds to develop late this week...

A period of strong northerly winds will develop Thursday night and
persist through Saturday morning. This will result in hazardous
marine and aviation conditions as well as the potential for power
outages and flying debris over land areas.

An unseasonably strong area of high pressure over the Yukon
combined with a surface low pressure system over the northeast
Pacific will lead to the development of strong northerly winds
Thursday night through Saturday morning. Highest winds are
expected Friday afternoon into Saturday with small craft to gale
force winds in the northern and central Inner Channels. The
highest winds will be in locations exposed to the north or near
mountain passes through the Coast Range. The potential for a taku
wind event in downtown Juneau and Douglas is also likely with
strong gusts Thursday night into early Saturday.

This statement will be updated by 4 PM akdt Wednesday or sooner
if conditions warrant.
