Thank you. That was one of my babies from last year. I am waiting for the ones from this year to open to see what I get. I grow them for the wildlife in the area and I found one "planted" by a certain little black squirrel over by my maples in the back yard that is doing well considering... the yellows are Russian giants and the one with the dark centre is Lady Aztec a smaller version but very pretty as you see for a single. Next year I plan to put in a large area of them. The Blue Jays and Cardinals love them as do most of the birds who migrate to this area in the Spring.

LOVE sunflowers!
Love the unfolding...
Tried many times to get them to grow here & I know some do very well.
Up towards North Mills River area, one lady has them growing 9-10 feet high with seed disks the size of big dinner plates!
Envy...but in a good way.
How are your babies doing THIS year?

They are doing very well. Most of the ones that are coming up are ones planted by my furry little friends who are always surprising me with their efforts.. Behind my garage, I have 6 big ones and am just waiting for them to flower. Will take pics when they do. My aztec one this year turned out a different color, must be a hybrid. Its all deep russet except for the seed pod. I have some opening in the front of the house along my porch that have little flowers on them but I am sure the birds will love anyway when they develop their seed.

Sunflowers are easy to grow as long as they get plenty of sun. Even the soil does not have to be all that great. The ones in these pictures were the giant Russians that have flowers at least l0 inches in diameter.

BTW all the ones coming up this year were planted by the squirrels...LOL
