Hurricane Andrew approaching the southeast Louisiana coastline as a Category 4 on August 25, 1992. Andrew would go on to strike the central portion of Louisiana near Morgan City as a 115 mph Category 3, weaker than initially predicted by the National Hurricane Center, but would still cause over a billion dollars (1992 USD) in damage to Louisiana. Andrew was the costliest natural disaster in United States history at the time ($26.5 billion 1992 USD), surpassed only by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Andrew was also one of only three Category 5 hurricanes to make landfall in the United States in recorded history, the other two being Hurricane Camille in 1969 and the Great Labor Day Hurricane of 1935.
