5:45AM in the pond..our houseguests and I were up with the sun to enjoy the very early hour with coffee and a sighting of our very blue frog..they didn't believe me till they saw him for themselves!

Living in the mountains of Western Maine on a 15 acre 'gentleman's farm', in a hand hewn log home, has been a wonderful experience these past 6 1/2 years. The photo ops are virtually unlimited what with the surrounding working farms, dozens of lakes, ponds, and brooks, and thousands of acres of forest. Not to mention our own pond and brooks as well as extensive flower gardens, fruit bushes, vines, and trees. The views of Mt Washington and the Presidentials of NH only add to the drama! Not a bad place to be retired..and I am so glad I can share all of this with the wonderful folks on this great site..it has been a wonderful journey and learning experience thus far..and it's only getting better! |

Susan, so neat to follow a frog through the seasons. Ours usually don't last long with those snapper turtles hanging around.
And the BLUE FRAME goes so well with his unique color !

'In the typical green frog, light penetrates to the iridophores, which act like tiny mirrors to reflect and scatter mostly blue light back into the xanthopores above them. The xanthopores contain yellow pigments, and act as yellow filters so the light escaping to the skin surface appears green to our eyes.
