Thanks everyone. It's been a sad say on the Space Coast. Feeling the finality. Locals that have been doing their jobs with no promise of the future are feeling nervous. There is chatter that the vehicle assembly building is slated to be torn down if it isn't put to use soon. It was built & used long before the shuttle & should continue. So many that are still around here put their life into all this, generations of hard work & knowledge. To not see it continued in some form is freaking people out.

Glad to see she brought her air of patriotism, pride & celebration with her to D.C...we are certainly missing it here.

I should have some photos from today uploaded later.

This pic shows it best.. I was surprised how dirty Discovery was. Sounded like they'll clean her up as they ready it for the museum.

It does look a bit the worse for wear and this photo really shows that, but then it is 28 years old and has gone how many million miles?

From what I was told Discovery is still dirty from the last flight. They usually clean them up when they come back but I think due to budget cuts & such decontamination & cleaning is to be done at the museum.

It’s sad to see them go. The worthwhile benefits from the Space Program touched everyone across the
whole world. It was a time when Americans pulled together as one. Many said it was a waste of money,
well it was far better spent than the lives and money wasted in Iraq and Afghanistan and my war in Vietnam58,000 died for what?
