Regent-governor of Hungarian Kingdom, János Hunyadi (1407-1456), who had fought many battles against the Ottomans in the previous two decades, organised the defence of Nándorfehérvár castle in 1456. The siege eventually escalated into a major
battle, during which János Hunyadi and Giovanni da Capistrano ('Saint John of Capistrano') led a sudden counterattack that overran the Ottoman camp, ultimately
compelling the wounded sultan to lift the siege and retreat.

During the siege of Nandorfehervar Pope Callixtus III (1378-1458) ordered the bells of every European church to be rung every day at noon. This was a call for believers to pray for the defenders. The Hungarian Kingdom defended the western Europe. And the practice of noon bell is traditionally attributed to this Hungarian victory.

About Danube
Danube 'Danube' (András Juhász): I am a photographer interested in the visualisation of the effects of suddenly appearing solar wind storms. At the same time my colour rich photos also want to mirror the Carpathian Basin's atmosphere, the natural beauty of its wide open spaces and its versatile Cultural Heritage. I return rarely, only when I have something to say about the matter under discussion, and also when I have a great time enjoying myself producing something worthwhile. Thank you for your friendly visit. Goodbye!
