The surviving squirrel, one of a pair that fell out of a tree on Friday, is doing very well on a heating pad and diet of kitten milk replacer. I still have heard nothing from the wildlife rehabbers I left a message with, and my inclination right now is to keep the baby and take it from there.

Thank you all for your comments and encouragement! Good news -- I have finally been contacted by two wildlife rehabilitation specialists, and one will take the squirrel off my hands. I have to go meet him in about an hour, so wish me luck -- and the little squirrel too. These people are experts and this offers perhaps its best chance to survive to be released eventually into the wild. All along I wondered what would happen when the critter gets big enough that I can't keep my dogs away from it any longer... they have been known to kill rabbits and, yes, even an adult squirrel, in my yard. So, I think things are looking up for me and for the baby. Will be in touch later and let you all know how it went!

When I read below the picture that you hadn't heard from any rehabber I was really upset that no one had called you back. Glad I kept reading to see your last entry. Very happy that you found someone to continue on with the care of this cutie so he/she can grow and be released back into the wild.

You did a wonderful job.

You're a good nurse! I thought the baby might have a better chance with you, although I know it would require a lit of care. Good job!!

Thank you, dewpointdog! I HAVE been exhausted lately, for more reasons than squirrel sitting. Need to get to bed earlier and spend less time on my computer, LOL! Glad this series warmed your heart.
