Eerie reddish glow of the certainly-interesting foreground, coupled with the green of the aurora, makes for a great pic! Nice!

Man! That must be so awe inspiring just to stand there and see it in reality. I never found out how fast the lights move. I've only seen pictures that fascinate me. awesome pictures.

Muddymuddymuddmann, no one has answered you so I'll give it a shot. The aurora are some 50 miles and higher above the Earth.

Wow, thanks everyone for your nice comments! And thank you, Approvers, for the AC!
The snow in foreground was plowed snow from the parking lot.
Muddy, as far as I know, the northern lights do not touch the ground. Maybe someone from Alaska can answer that...
Thank you, again, y'all!
Debbie

Thanks, Katy, for the answer! As the Lights are dancing overhead, as they did the other night, it seems like they are so close. I didn't know it was 50 feet.. Thanks again, girl.

I don't know how it could get any better than this. I hope I am able to capture a shot of the lights on one of my future visits to Alaska. I have tried in the past, but have never been happy with my pictures. This is one of my favs! Thanks so much for sharing. Congrats on the well deserved AC!

About CenTexWeatherGal
CenTexWeatherGal Hi or Howdy! My name is Debbie. I've been a member of Wunderground for several years now. As my handle suggests, I'm a novice weather nut. I get it from my mom. :) Anyhow, I've always loved the very complete weather data found here ... from radar, to data, to blogs, etc. This is the best weather web site out there.I have a Davis Instruments Vantage Pro 2 personal weather station which sends data to WU every few seconds. And I have my own weather web site as well (go to website link below).I've always admired the photos here. Recently, I bought myself a new camera. So, please critique my photos and tell me how I can improve. Thank you!
