This huge column of smoke from a wildland fire made its own clouds and dwarfed the mile high Ruby Mountians today.

Thanks so much everyone! This was most likely a lightning caused fire since we had thunderstorms in the area yesterday and today. The Ruby Mountains that are about one mile high look small compared to the smoke column. A smoky plume drapes across the front of the mountains and could be seen from all over. All of the clouds in the scene were created by the fire. It was threatening the small town of Lee last night, but hopefully the cooler night temps and less wind helped.
