Fay after it's last landfall in the northern gulf coast is finally out of here. It is just producing showers and thunderstorms over Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama at the moment.

Hurricane Gustav

Once was a mere tropical depression 24 hours ago is now an agressive category 1 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 90 mph with wind gusts much higher up to 115 mph. This ties the record with last year's Humberto for the fastest time from a tropical depression to become a hurricane in just 16 hours time.

Favorable conditions surround Gustav so major intensification is still possible as it is forecasted to skim the soutern coast of Cuba after its landfall in SW Haiti. Gustav, at the current moment, is moving to the NW and there is still some uncertainty when this will bend back to the west: It all depends on when the high builds in, if it does at all. The potential for a major hurricane is definitely there (according to the GFDL and HWRF too). As far as a CONUS landfall goes, anywhere from Brownsville to Ft. Lauderdale should be keeping a close eye on this.

Stay tuned for my next update...for whenever that may be.

First off, we have Tropical Storm Edouard situated in the northern central GOM. Ever since 91L became Edouard it has been a fairly ugly, ragged system. It developed, in case you need to be caught up, from a detatching frontal boundary. It then started to show signs of organization and then the NHC took quick notice to it and jumped on the bandwagon of further development. Not too much later, the Hurricane Hunters went in the disturbance and found the winds to suppor...

To start this blog off, I'd like to give my apologies out for everyone that reads my blog. I know I haven't updated in a while, and I plan to start updating more regularly starting in August, but, as you can see, I will most likely have a couple updates here and there about whatever is in the tropics before August rolls about. Now, more important at hand we have Tropical Storm Bertha wandering out in the Mid-Atlantic, Invest 94L nearing the Windward Islands, and som...

Starting June 1st, I will update the tropics daily. I am no "expert" yet when it comes to forecasting tropical systems, but I try to do my best as learning is part of the process to being a good forecaster/meteorologist (same thing...).But, I will have one more pre-season update until this coming Sunday...Currently a broad area of low pressure, declared invest 90E, is existing in the Eastern Pacific west of Costa Rica/Panama. Significant thunderstorms are not poofin...

Hello, for whoever is reading...Last year I've got to admit most of my tropical updates were not consistent and maybe not too "professional". So, this year I hope to be a bit more on key with having much frequent updates. If there is an off-season storm (or off-season threat) this year, I will keep you guys up to date on it. Other than that I will not update my blog everyday unnecessarily unless there is something developing or worth keeping an eye on in the tropics...
