The sun was not too hot, and the garden has made a lot of progress in the past few days. My datura seed pod has opened.

It's 92 here. I went to Pacifica earlier today, but the beach was too hot to stay there very long. Half Moon Bay looks colder at 76.

Foggy again
Posted by: tropicalthought, 03:11 PM GMT del 18 Agosto 2010 +0
I don't think it is going to lift today. The sun did come out in the afternoon. If we could get maybe even twice a week or afternoon, it would make a big difference.

My portrait was deleted, so uploaded one that was a photos of me, they rejected for some reason, like it was not a weather photo. I can't have any profile icon on this site. No one else does either. You have to go to my webpage and hunt around if you want to see a photo of me now, or you can go to my twitter account.

Some day we are going to drown in a sea of plastic bags
Posted by: tropicalthought, 10:36 PM GMT del 12 Agosto 2010 +0
Each time one visits a store like Ranch 99 Market, they give out many plastic bags. I try to tell them not to do it, and they refuse to understand. If you buy a gallon of water, they will put it in a plastic bag. You can't get out of that store without getting 6 or 7 plastic bags. People throw them away at home, and then they end up in the sea. Where they float in a big ball they will last millions of years. Killing off sea life with toxins. The animals end up eating the plastic bags and dying. Even a bear almost died from eating garbage bags with food in them. They had to cut the bear open.

If you go to KFC in San Mateo, you get the chicken in a bucket and inside another huge plastic bag. Each of use who does any shopping causes at least two of three bags per day if not more. Take out restaurants like to put the food in plastic bags. They resent you if you tell them not to do that. People get tired of fighting and despair is common. It is easier not to argue and just take the plastic bag because you are really tired that day and can't with all the stress in life.

Even at the doll show I attended last Saturday in Vallejo there are plastic bags. The dealer just collected a lot of free plastic bags and put the old doll which was still inside the box into another plastic bag. I had to insist they take the bag back. The doll is already in a box. The box does not need to be in another bag.

If they don't go into river, lakes and oceans plastic bags
fill up landfill. Why are they even still legal? Why can they not just use bio bags instead? There is not much you can do about your car. Hybrids are only for the very rich, but changing from plastic bags would be a painless change we could make very easily.

I don't understand how we can explain to future generations that they reason the world is filled with plastic bags is we were too lazy to make a small easy change in our lifestyle.

It's so hard to live in San Francisco
Posted by: tropicalthought, 12:30 PM GMT del 10 Agosto 2010 +0
I have been so busy with keeping up with the house, it is hard to find time to travel everyday into the sunshine. There is the high price of gas to consider, but if I don't get into some sun after a couple of days I start to feel a bit down. I like take the dogs to a park everyday for them to run around. I prefer to take them into the sun, but yesterday it did not clear up in the southbay in time for me to go. By 3pm the rush hour starts. I don't want to sit in traffic. This also uses even more gas. I try to always bring reusable bags and not take the plastic bags the try to give me in San Mateo. Plastic bags are very bad for the environment. People try to argue they can use them for dog poop, but then they go into landfills. I use paper towel instead which are compostible. We are not taking care of the environment now this cold summer is probably the result of global warming. We have not had even one nice day this summer.

Still no sun

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/28/dining/28roof.html

I saw this interesting story on ABC world new now last night, a whole roof top garden without any soil that supplies a restaurant, but it still won't help without any sun.

I suppose the sun may have come out at my house
Posted by: tropicalthought, 12:23 AM GMT del 08 Agosto 2010 +0
I was not home so I missed it. I went to a doll show in Vallejo. There was some minimal sun but it was not hot at all in Vallejo, and I had to wear my coat at the doll show.
But, I am past caring about the sun ever coming out again. I went all the way to Vallejo to see the new Mad Men Dolls, but they did not have them out yet. Otherwise, had a good time and saw a interesting Living Barbie in that orange net coat, I like, but I could not afford that.

I am so done with gardening
Posted by: tropicalthought, 03:13 PM GMT del 06 Agosto 2010 +0
I wish flora grubb would stop sending emails. I find it depressing. You can't add anything right now, to the garden, this is a winter season. There is never anything I want to buy at flora grubb, it's in a bad neighborhood, and they one time I went there the coffee bar was closed, because the coffee bar owners were on a weekend trip to the Napa area. Even they can't stand to be around San Francisco in the summer. Flora Grubb would really improve if they started selling things people need to create a great garden. They should sell soil amendments cheaply, and cute little plants that work, instead of weird things like succulents that will only do well in the east bay or the south bay. Flora Grubb is the kind of store that landscapers buy plants and install them in foolish people's garden's. Within three months in San Francisco, all those silly plants will be dead, but the landscaper has moved on to the next victim. And even if they did sell things I wanted to buy, I still would not go there because the neighborhood is bad, and totally out of the way of any other errand I may be running.
