Socialists in Congress with Ties to Communist Party USA
posted by Donna Calvin

75 Socialists in Congress

The 75-member Congressional Progressive Caucus, co-chaired by Reps. Raul Grijalva and Keith Ellison, is closely allied with the Democratic Socialists of America. The Communist Party USA identifies Progressive Caucus members as its “allies in Congress.”

The Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) was founded in 1991 by Bernie Sanders, a self-identified socialist who had recently been elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Sanders’ CPC co-founders included House members Ron Dellums,Lane Evans, Thomas Andrews, Peter DeFazio, and Maxine Waters. The Institute for Policy Studies (IPS) was also involved in CPC’s founding and in Caucus activities thereafter; IPS continues to advise CPC on various matters to this day.

Another key player in establishing CPC was the Democratic Socialists of America(DSA), which has maintained a close alliance with the Caucus ever since. In 1997, DSA’s political director, Chris Riddiough, organized a meeting with CPC leaders to discuss how the two groups might be able to “unite our forces on a common agenda.” Among those who participated in the meeting were Bernie Sanders, labor leader Richard Trumka, professor Noam Chomsky, feminist Patricia Ireland, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Senator Paul Wellstone, journalist William Greider, and the socialist author Barbara Ehrenreich.
A 2002 report by Joelle Fishman, chair of the Communist Party USA‘s Political Action Committee, stated that the Progressive Caucus “provides an important lever that can be used to advance workers’ issues and move the debate to the left in every Congressional District in the country.” In a 2010 CPUSA report, Party member David Bell identified Progressive Caucus members as his organization’s “allies in Congress.”

I get that.
But how does that equal the study headline?
"Gov getting smaller"
States doing the correct thing is offsetting the Feds gluttony, equals Gov getting smaller?
I mean its like 6 degrees of separation.
Add enough exact parameters and you can come up with almost anything.

I mean the header should read States save the US from Federal Gov.reckless excess.

But the sentence Gov getting smaller is a JOKE.

Morgan Stanley is essentially the owner of the group that did your link study.

In other words....
I wonder whom directed the study with a demanded outcome headline.

Morgan Stanley has more than a financial debt that it had to repay.

And if I am not mistaken,Morgan Stanley and the Fed Gov connection is like a revolving door.

BTW Misanth.
Are you enjoying our give and take?
I am.
This is not about changing minds.
Its a discussion about differences and preference of path.
I actually enjoy the path to understanding the Democrat perspective.
I eventually would like to get to common goals and how we differ on the path to the same outcome.
I think that would be a fascinating discussion.

And I just want to add. Thank you Misanth for a mostly civil exchange.
Any slight digs are just the tires meeting the road.
I take no offense and I hope you dont either.

That is precisely what has been missing in politics in the last 10-15 years. It has gotten particularly bad since Obama was elected and Mitch McConnell said the Republicans' goal was to make him a one-term president. With that attitude, there can be no common path between the parties. And the right has become so radical, that Reagan would be considered too liberal to even get nominated today.

Some of the best achievements of politicians in the past century were by the Republicans. A couple of examples come to mind: Teddy Roosevelt started the national parks system. Eisenhower gave us the interstate highway system. The Republicans would never do that today and, in fact, are doing what they can to privatize everything in sight.

My proposal for a common goal is to revive the art of compromise and put an end to the hard-line my way or no way line-in-the-sand. Without compromise, no progress is possible -- not between two people or two political parties.

As it is life is using up most of my hours so How about we have this conversation when I post a new blog that deals with just this. And hopefully ATM I will have time for a conversation not just a quick response.
Goal?????!!!
This weekend.

Love ya Briar.
I really think we want the same thing we just cant figure out how to get our officials on the same path to same results.
