I think that I can help to ID some of the ones that you are unsure about. Starting from the top of your photos. :)
We'll start with the augers. The shell at the bottom of the photo is most definitely an auger. The others, that appear more "knobby" look to me, like Florida Cerith's (Cerithium floridanum).
The dove shell looks to be a Chestnut or McGinty's Latirus.
Those are definitely Blood Arks. The brown or black part on the shell is present when the animal is alive in the shell as a form of protective coating. It rubs off after death.
The Disc Dosinia could be the large Smooth Tellin (Tellina laevigata).
The unidentified cockle could either be a Yellow cockle or a juvenile Prickly cockle.
The iridescent shells at the bottom are Atlantic Jingle Shells. I used to have jars full of them. They come in so many beautiful shades.
I hope that this helps you! I love seashells and it's always nice to find someone who seems to enjoy them just as much!
You found a wider variety than anything we have here.
We get arks, those 'boat' shells, pens, some olives, whelks, those fan shaped things that are so easily broken, some tiny shells, very colorful, that Mama always called angel wings but I'm not sure what they really are.
I think I've found one scallop in all the years I've lived here and walked the local beaches.
Sadly, the last few times I've been out on the local beaches, I found absolutely nothing worth picking up. About 10 years ago, a friend and I went out in Feb/Mar, right after a full moon and high tide and neither of us found a thing. All we got out of it was a nice walk and lots of fresh sea air. I guess that's not too bad but we were disappointed.
Ellen & Christian should be here soon.. They are going with us to the Wedding this afternoon and party tonight.
Ellen will be our "DD" to get us 3 home safely! LOL
Bug, we don't have that many shells here on FT Lauderdale beach either.
Dewpoint.. thanks so much for your information very helpful!!!
Code, it will be great seeing you again...
I will try to get back here tomorrow!!!
Hubby took a picture of me outside while ago nad I loaded it here and put it in the header..
I tried to make it my new avatar but not sure it got approved yet.. we will see..
Enjoy your evening.
Somebody many years ago brought my grandma a fighting conch shell that had an inscription in it from somewhere. Seeing your collection brings back memories! :)
Enjoy your weekend!
Glad your enjoying the weekend. It's been so nice out there.
I'm having a very mixed weekend. I got up at 6am to run a 5k yesterday that a friend of mine organized..he raised a bunch of money for a homeless cause. Then I went to work from 12-7. I was supposed to go to another friend's birthday party after that, but was so exhausted, I wasn't sure I could even do the half hour drive to his house. I just went home and collapsed.
Today I'm going to work from 10-3. Then I head downtown for a walkthrough of Hope Floats, our event for Tomorrow's Rainbow.
One of these days..I'm going to rest! I just don't know when.
-Jeff
Very nice avatar pic; you certainly clean up good! LOL
We had some heavy, heavy rain yesterday afternoon. Not until all my laundry was done and back in the house, thank heavens.
Parking on our local beaches has become so restrictive, not to mention expensive. IF you can even find a spot. Which makes it not worth it for me, fighting all the traffic to get out there in warm weather to just walk around for an hour. It's a bit easier in the winter, I'm sure, but I'm just not all that inclined go anymore. Not like when I was younger and went out there to see and be seen and soak up rays.
Sad, ain't it?
Thank you.. Rob, love the song! LOL
Yes, when I put in A LOT of effort I can clean up pretty good. Had a great time.
Bug, I hear you about beaches our Ft Lauderdale beaches are very hard to get parking nearby and very expensive. We don't really have great sea shells either.
Jeff, our March of Dimes 5K is first Sat of May, I need to get myself back up to running 3 miles in a row again... You don't ever have "down" time do you? LOL
Ylee, thanks! I have several of the Giant Conch shells also being used for decorative purposes..
they are a work of art!
Rob, ag ain thanks for the music!
Scott. LOL Thanks!!!
