Increasing high tides as Irene approaces southeast

On August 29/30, the new moon and perigee will be less than 40 hours apart. That is not a perfect alignment and it is a few days beyond when Irene should make the most impact.

However, high tides will be slightly above normal on August 26 and more so on August 27. I am posting the highest tide of the day for selected cities below, along with height.

This bridge disaster really happened. The original Tacoma Narrows bridge opened July 1, 1940 and collapsed November 7, 1940 at 11:10 a.m. The bridge cost $6,400,000 and was the third longest span in the world at that time.No human lives were lost. A scene from The Hurricane. Director John Ford was given a budget of $400,000 for the setting and special effects. $150,000 to create the Polynesian village, and $250,000 to destroy it. Filmed on 2 1/2 acres behind United Artists main set building. The wind machines and water tanks work very well. Who needs CGI!
