30, 73F, misty. waning gibbous moon over the sheep barn. roosters up. toast is toasting..
00 medium low tide at CK with spoonbills. a black mangrove near #4 bridge had a multitude of egrets roosting in it. it looked like a Christmas tree. low 80's, wind SE-SW 8-10 knts. light chop. partly cloudy with big thunder heads to the NW. did trawls and bait sets. catches were varied. in one trawl, we pulled in almost 1,000 atlantic bumpers ~ 2" long. they were measured and counted. next numerous fish was the whiting, young-of-the-year. otherwise we got catfish, pinfish, and some flounder. wind switched to the SW in the afternoon and picked up. during one offshore set a manatee swam right next to the boat and the water was so dark from tannin from the river that we didn't see it until we walked into it. don't know who was more surprised. I slashed my finger on an oyster and bled all over the boat. one of the crew helped me stop the bleeding with gauze pads while another of the crew washed down the boat. a lot of spray on our way back going into the wind and the chop.
00, low tide coming in. spoonbills in the marsh. a great blue heron up to its tail feathers out in a creek.
10, 86F, overcast. got 2 eggs. understand we put a vehicle on mars. thinking there's a lot of things that needs fixing down here instead - like our infrastructure. we've got fresh water again in CK but there's several bridges that need help.
50, 81F, thunder and lightning to the south. black as a bruise. south wind feels great!
