Best non-educated guess, for whst it's worth! :)
"At a media briefing on Tuesday, Lord Coe said that the wet weather was 'a problem and is causing us extra challenges' in particular at the equestrian venue of Greenwich Park and the Eton Dorney rowing and canoeing venue.
He advised spectators to "bring wellies" to cope with the saturated ground."
OK - floral wellies for the ladies, perhaps.
I dont' know if you've been to Mass's blog, but she has stopped comments and she has indicated that due to computer and health issues she will not be blogging for a while. Lets hope its nothing too serious. She sends prayers to all the WU friends for coming weeks and months, which sounds like long term.
Seeing a T-storm Watch across N IL till 8 pm.

Hope you get some rain.

Glad to see you got some rain, but probably not enough to relieve the drought.
I drove the boat fine for the tour though. I just can't dock it. So anyway I found a very good view on a home for sale on columbia bay which I will use and actually could sell. Now we need one more. Going to the frank lloyd wright by water now.
One good thing in terms of our drought and generous rains last night: it is overcast and humid today, giving the benefit of the rains soaking into the earth without that baking sun. Yay again! Maybe pics late. Ta ta for now. Stay safe all friends!
Glad you got some rain!
On a sad note, Colorado mourns again. I have no words. My nieces who were just here for a visit, go to those midnight openings all the time. Thankfully, I checked in with them and they are ok, but very very shook up and just saddened and scared. They live a bit far from Aurora, but I checked on them anyway.
Our heartfelt prayers and sorrow for all of the families and survivors and their families. And for our beloved beautiful state of Colorado which has endured so much pain lately. May the peace of the mountains descend upon you all.
It will be a busy day which started with tears in my eyes over the shooting. Stay safe all. Be by this weekend to check on all of the WU friends. You are in my thoughts. Hugs to all.
-jus-
Have a good weekend!
Awfully glad to hear you got some rain. Here's to more, soon!
WU: Did no one teach the newbies at admin how to delete spam blogs? eh? eh? sheesh they've been there for days. I thought they launched the WU site in another language in Africa or something? with the names I didn't recognize (which I recognized right away without even opening were SPAM) I count fully 20 spam blogs.
Anyway, it's just annoying.
Hi Ylee, glad you didn't get slammed. Spotty storms ahead next week for us. Hope the Mackinac race is without a fierce storm this year though. I didn't show the FLW. I chose another house and it was perfect to show off the water, the chain, and the lifestyle around the lakes. The other Realtor owns it, and showed it with me. It was phenominal. Decorated so beautifully. A 1933 beauty! A view of the water from almost every room. Hope you get some time off this weekend. Enjoy!
NEw, Finally responding. Have a nice vacation. Sorry you couldn't post a song. Hmmm? Not sure why or what was happening on Thurs. with the blog. But hope you have some beach time. Hope Mass is resting and relaxing and we will send our prayers and good wishes her way!
Hi Pros! Hope you are better after your wasp sting I was reading about! Seemed to have missed that this week. So sorry to hear. Did you get some good rain?
Thank you for dropping off your favorite athletes from your area. We'll of course be cheering on Michael Phelps! Gabby Douglas I think I saw during the championships. I believe her Father was there for the first time to see her compete? It was an interesting story line. She's a fireball though! Good luck to her and our VA, MD athletes!
Hi BF that waws a loooong and schtormy night. But it was quite beautiful with all the rain. Then the next day it was overcast and humid and the rain soaked into the ground well. We went to the boat (Whaler) and had to pump it out. There was quite a bit of water in there. Way more than 1.26 inches. My mother in-laws rain gauge showed 4 inches! And it is not under a gutter, lol. So, I think we really did have more rain in spots.
Did I ever tell you that we caught over 30 fish on Wednesday morning? We took the morning off because Dau #2 and FSIL are in town and we all went fishing early. We hooked into a school of white bass. It was a blast. This drought has been some of the best fishing we've ever had on the chain if you just like fun fish and catch and release. Anyhooooo, ramblin, ramblin...hope you stay cool out there! You have the heat now and then guess it is headed our way :(
Sandi Love, love love the wellies! Boy have you needed those this year! I hate to admit with all of the fishing we've been doing I was actually looking at these lil 'wellies' I wonder if they come in other colors besides camo, lol!
So, I also forgot to post the photos of the 'Feature' I saw on the radar earlier this week after a storm. It was like a bow echo, racing the opposite direction in a very thin line on the radar. By chance, we went to dinner in that direction, and I was able to photograph the feature, live, on my phone. Not real exciting, but lol at least I wasn't imagining things. (Ylee said it was probably an outflow boundary) will post it in a minute to add to this looong post. I better hit the button or I'll lose 20 minutes of typing now :) Stay safe everyone.
Add: Here are the clouds in a curved thin line (photos don't do it justice as it went clear to Lake Michigan moving South West across the sky. Opposite of the storm. I'll try to capture the radar from that evening. I think it was Tuesday?
With so much bad news, the other day when I saw your post about the YarnBombers I had to go find the You-tubes and post it everywhere. Random Acts of Kindness and Senseless Beauty need more press presence.
The dog photo is soooo cute.
So nice to see you.
Well, I have an event to go to with hubby tonight.
I revised this poem today for Aurora, Co. Posting now because I will be gone later tonight when the stars are shining(but may get to sneak a peek and just throw my hands up, mourn and look up at the stars...) My heart is filled with pain for all those hurting today. Tears well with no notice. It is just mourning and darkness, and sparks of light intertwined.
Indian Legend.
Stay safe all ships!
time we left!
Love the dog photo, I have to groom two of my guys today ready for a show this weekend, then I have a big task I have entered two of my older dogs in our Royal Show in veterans and they haven't been "show" trimmed for several years so that will be fun! Have to start now ready for September.
Take care....

Glad I got the canoe ready, too!
Area forecast discussion
National Weather Service Chicago/Romeoville Illinois
346 PM CDT Monday Jul 23 2012
Discussion...
342 PM CDT
Main concerns and questions revolve around chances for showers and
thunderstorms late this afternoon into the
evening...overnight...as well as over the next several days with
severe weather and heavy rainfall a concern for each time frame.
In the near term...scattered middle and high level cloud cover
continue to spill southeast across much of the County Warning Area. Although there
have been some breaks observed today...the majority of the day has
observed partly cloudy to partly sunny skies. This cloud cover has
limited overall temperatures today with most areas not quite rising as
high as previously anticipated. With The Breaks...it didnt take
much for surface temperatures to rise into the middle 90s with some isolated
upper 90s. This general trend has been good with regard to the
heat and humidity which was expected today...as dewpoints did not
quite mix out with many locations across northern Illinois
currently observing low to middle 70 dewpoints. Areas may observe
temperatures rise a couple of degrees over the next couple of
hours...before thicker cloud cover upstream across southwest
Wisconsin moves southeast across the County Warning Area and stifles any further
heating. With several ripples in the flow aloft shifting overhead
today...scattered light showers have been observed across the
southwest portion of the County Warning Area today with some isolated lightning
strikes observed. With a decent cap in place and cloud cover
helping to limit low and middle level lapse rates...convection has
been kept in check today. Although...concerns and questions still
remain for late this afternoon into the evening. Have been
monitoring a stronger middle level feature dropping southeast across
southeast Minnesota and southwest Wisconsin with latest radar
imagery showing some returns/showers moving into eastern Iowa. My
concerns with these showers are that upscale growth could occur as
they encounter a destabilizing atmosphere over northern Illinois.
Latest RUC analysis is indicating that the atmosphere is
destabilizing with cin eroding and low level lapse rates
steepening. Although this is probably occurring...I wonder if this
latest analysis might be overdone. Where fairly steep lapse rates
overlap this middle level wave/showers...lightning and upscale growth
has been nonexistent. Also...as middle and high level cloud cover
continue to move overhead...not anticipating any real good
destabilization to continue across the area with warm air aloft
remaining. So despite my concerns...a better solution for the near
term into the evening are that showers move into northern Illinois
with some further development and isolated stronger
development...but with the previously mentioned limiting factors
helping to once again keep the convection and any severe potential
in check.
Concerns then shift towards late tonight into early Tuesday
morning. Another stronger and more defined middle level wave noted on
latest water vapor imagery across the Dakotas will drop southeast
across the region. This wave will encounter a strengthening low
level jet advecting a very moist air mass into it and over a low
level baroclinic zone dropping south through the County Warning Area...with
development expected across central Wisconsin. This wave/forcing
and steering flow will shift this cluster of showers/thunderstorms
southeast across northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana...with
the best chances expected north of line from Dixon in Illinois to
fowlwer in Indiana and the best chances with regards to timing
expected to be after midnight. As this complex moves across the
area it will encounter a very moist and unstable atmosphere with
high dewpoint/precipitable water air in place. Concerns during this time frame
would be for some isolated large hail...but with concerns more
toward the heavy rain potential. Although this does not appear to
be a classic heavy rain setup...many features are in place to
provide several rounds of showers and thunderstorms that will all
have the potential to produce heavy downpours...including low
level flow briefly orienting itself with regard to the baroclinic
zone such to bring at least some period of potential training of
cells. Will continue to make mention of these threats in the severe weather potential statement
as well as an esf.
Hydrology {{personally, I'd like to have seen an updated hydrology. But I'm not sure when that comes out?}}
Hydrology...
400 am CDT
There is a modest setup for localized heavy rain in the region of
northern Illinois/northwest in/southern WI tonight into early Tuesday
morning. Anomalous deep layer moisture values near the 90th
percentile for July are forecast over the area tonight with
favorable parameters for robust storm development due to tall and
fairly deep instability. Parameters for regeneration and storm
training are also in place due to a slow-moving front oriented
from west to east. The middle evening into overnight is also a
favored time period for heavy rainfall based on climatology. For
rainfall amounts from this evening through Tuesday morning...there
is likely to be a swath of rainfall in excess of an inch within
the northern Illinois/northwest in/southern WI area and how wide that is
remains uncertain at this time. This is most favored near the
Illinois/WI state line /also favored by the cips analogs/. Localized
amounts around or in excess of two inches are possible given the
moisture parameters. Flash flood guidance values are generally
high with the persistent dryness...however the most favored area
for rainfall tonight includes urban areas of Rockford and
chicagoland where potential for any heavy rainfall to become
excessive is much greater.

But I did enjoy all the blogs and tunes accompanying the blogosphere here :) I may have stayed up a tad too late and surely will be awakened rudely by storms about 4 am, lol.
Night all. Awesome stories, photos, tunes, reflections et al. stay you!
Oh btw...I'm blaming all the Ark and other blogs which shall remain nameless for keeping me up late at night, listening to their tunes and watching vids (and hurricanes in China)

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH POSSIBLE
VALID 240413Z - 240545Z
PROBABILITY OF WATCH ISSUANCE...40 PERCENT
SUMMARY...THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT MAY NOT BE COMPLETELY NEGLIGIBLE
IN THE NEAR TERM ...AND IT APPEARS POSSIBLE THAT IT COULD INCREASE
AFTER 06Z ACROSS PARTS OF SOUTHERN MINNESOTA...PERHAPS EASTWARD INTO
SOUTHERN WISCONSIN/NORTHERN ILLINOIS. TRENDS ARE BEING MONITORED
FOR AN INCREASING THREAT THAT COULD REQUIRE A WATCH.
DISCUSSION...A GRADUAL INCREASE IN CONVECTIVE DEVELOPMENT IS
UNDERWAY WITHIN A PERSISTENT ZONE OF STRONGER LOWER/MID TROPOSPHERIC
WARM ADVECTION ...ON THE NORTHERN EDGE OF MORE STRONGLY CAPPING
ELEVATED MIXED LAYER AIR ADVECTING AROUND THE CENTRAL U.S.
SUBTROPICAL HIGH CENTER. THROUGH THE 06-09Z TIME FRAME...ACTIVITY
IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP EAST SOUTHEASTWARD INTO SOUTHERN
WISCONSIN...WHILE CONTINUING TO REDEVELOP ACROSS SOUTHERN
MINNESOTA...NEAR THE NOSE OF A 40 KT SOUTHWESTERLY 850 MB JET.
HIGH PRECIPITABLE WATER ON THE ORDER OF 1.75 TO 2 INCHES IS
CONTRIBUTING TO LARGE CAPE ALONG THIS CORRIDOR...WHICH APPEARS TO
COINCIDE WITH A BELT OF 40-50 KT WEST NORTHWESTERLY 500 MB FLOW.
VERTICAL SHEAR IS SUFFICIENT FOR ORGANIZED CONVECTIVE
DEVELOPMENT...INCLUDING SUPERCELL STRUCTURES WHICH MAY ENHANCE THE
POTENTIAL FOR LARGE HAIL. CELL TRAINING MAY LEAD TO LOCALLY HEAVY
RAINFALL...AND THE UPSCALE GROWTH OF ONE OR TWO LARGER STORM
CLUSTERS MAY NOT BE OUT OF THE QUESTION. HIGHEST POTENTIAL FOR THIS
SEEMS TO BE ACROSS SOUTHWESTERN MINNESOTA AFTER 06Z...AS FORCING FOR
UPWARD VERTICAL MOTION IS ENHANCED BY AN IMPULSE PROGRESSING
EASTWARD ACROSS SOUTH DAKOTA. IF THIS OCCURS...HEAVY PRECIPITATION
LOADING MAY LEAD TO ONE OR TWO DOWNBURSTS WITH STRONG SURFACE
GUSTS...AND EVENTUALLY THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SIGNIFICANT EAST
SOUTHEASTWARD PROPAGATING COLD POOL.

If this is real, that is a really pretty photo and sentiment.
And in Iowa it is quite busy, too.
Tomorrow looks nasty for the Moderate Severe area on the SPC map out East. We seem to have really gotten busy with the severe.
Pretty much everyone here in Chicago has their power back but a few thousand. At the peak it was 300,000 and the heat was awful for all those without. Cooling shelters opened up. Hope this does not happen out East or tonight for others.
Will be here on WU watching. May track a bit.
I Have a lot of good friends camping up by the Dells in Wisconsin.
But, wonder if those storms in Iowa are headed this way instead of farther North? Hmmmmm usually they do train this way from that location if conditions are right.
Stay safe Mid-westerners and out East!

That's quite a line!

I saw this article and thought it was inspiring.
"When London's mayor accepted the Olympic flag in 2008 a Chinese farmer who was looking on inside the stadium says he was inspired to travel to the next host city for the Games by the only way he could afford - rickshaw.
In two years Chen Guan Ming travelled 140,000km through 16 countries, overcoming floods, war zones, mountain passes and temperatures of -30 degrees.
His aim, he said, was to "spread the Olympic spirit".
He arrived in London on 6 July."
Ooooh. Stormy sky. Cool pic though.
Came by to say two Boomer Sooner athletes made the men's gymnastics team.
One is from Houston, TX and one from Reno but both have been on multiple NCAA championship teams at OU.
And, ah, who couldn't root for these two good-looking guys in canoeing, even if they are from Slovakia and not from the U.S.? Click image for the story from nbcolympics.com.

The London landmark was joined by hundreds of churches and other organisations across the nation as bell ringers greeted the official start of London 2012.
Hundreds of thousands joined in (including me) by ringing a bell for three minutes!
The event was conceived by Turner Prize-winning artist Martin Creed. Everyone is asked to ring a bell, even cycle bells, as loudly as possible for three minutes. It is expected to set a world record for mass bell-ringing.
The extravaganza at the opening tonight will start with the ringing of a 27 tonne bell - the largest in Europe!
The UK has always used its church bells to ring in news, both as a warning and as a celebration.
Have a good rest of the day and enjoy the opening ceremonies!
We went to dinner but the TV in the restaurant was on silent so no sound :( I was so upset but still smiled watching and imagining what songs were playing. Will have to see the replay. (why do I get tears in my eyes? lol)
I thought the show with no sound was fabulous! Beautifully imaginative.
Let the games begin!

USA is almost up in the parade of Athletes. It's been beautiful Ylee! I loved Sweden's outfits. They had striped across polo shirts with their flag colors, yellow-then blue-yellow then blue. So many colorful outfits from all over the world. And congrats to the woman of Saudi and UAE (?) competing in the games for the first time their women were allowed! So awesome.
They are smiling and goofing around and really happy for the most part. They aren't too disciplined, lol! Showing off for the cameras and whooping and hollering and dancing!
I get misty, sniffle sniffle (lol) Love the Olympics!
