Hurricane Emilia is in a phase of rapid intensification, going from a 65 MPH tropical storm to a 100 MPH Category 2 hurricane this morning. Wind shear levels have gotten lower near her northeastern quadrant (where it was most persistent yesterday in the 20-30 kt. range) and are expected to continue to drop. Ocean temperatures are decently conductive for the time being, so there is really nothing stopping the process. Therefore, I fully expect Emilia to continue to steadily intensify and it is my guess that by this time tomorrow, she'll be a Category 4 or 5 hurricane. Emilia has an enormous satellite presentation (she's very near 400 miles across)and evidence of a strong eyewall, as well as a rapidly-developing eye. We are fortunate Emilia is moving out to sea, because it looks like she will become a monster.

AtlanticToday, it's very quiet in the northern Atlantic basin. There is really only one noticeable disturbance, and it's located near 14*N, 18*W, moving west at 5-10 MPH. There is a potential weak rotation with this system, but it's very disorganized and SAL air layers are through the roof for about 700 miles to the system's east. This system will only need to be watched if this circulation persists as it plugs through that dry air layer, and the chances of that are...
