Emilia is Rapidly Intensifying-Likely to be a Cat. 4, Maybe 5 Tomorrow
Hurricane Emilia is in a phase of rapid intensification, going from a 65 MPH tropical storm to a 100 MPH Category 2 hurricane this morning. Wind shear levels have gotten lower near her northeastern quadrant (where it was most persistent yesterday in the 20-30 kt. range) and are expected to continue to drop. Ocean temperatures are decently conductive for the time being, so there is really nothing stopping the process. Therefore, I fully expect Emilia to continue to steadily intensify and it is my guess that by this time tomorrow, she'll be a Category 4 or 5 hurricane. Emilia has an enormous satellite presentation (she's very near 400 miles across)and evidence of a strong eyewall, as well as a rapidly-developing eye. We are fortunate Emilia is moving out to sea, because it looks like she will become a monster.
