Weekend Weather. Any questions?
The weekend is here! Well like all week heres a blog dedicated to an actually serios topic. Dosent haft to be tropical yet I know everyone cares more about the fish storms than the massive cold front moving throught the U.S at the current moment. So.... if anyone gots a topic close to home.... or if you have any questions about your weather or weather in general let me know.

In the north east the cold front that cuased havoc in many areas has moved off the coast and out to sea. Yet this is still some lingering showers feeding of the left over unstableness of the the fronts passage. Saturday and sunday this showers will dissapate and high pressure will build in leaving a nice dose of fall weather. Lows this weekend will get down to the low 40s in most areas and high 30s with isolated frost at night due to nocturnal cooling since there will be little cloud cover.
In the North west the martime low that give us some rain yesterday is bringing even more rain for washington. Go figure. Yet there are winter weather advisorys our for higher elevations. But these areas are sparse and no need to worry about most peoples travel commute.
NW VIS

In the central plains high wind warnings have been put out. The low pressure on the west coast is starting to collide with our high pressure in the east creating a trough that will bring high gradient winds all weekend.
Upper level gradient winds

This is the same case in the south east as the nor-easter that we have been waiting for all week will be setting in. Unfortunetly this will not be very enjoyable for many people living on the coast since the red tide warnings have been in place for several days now. Winds will be 20 gusting up to 30 knots with renagade coastal showers bring heavy downpours to isolated locations along the coast.
SE RADAR

So in short! Cold in the north windy in the south and wet in the north west and as usual no weather in the South west.
Any weather questions?
So another long day ahead of me. So same as yesterday heres a blog dedicated to an actually serios topic. Dosent haft to be tropical yet I know everyone cares more about the fish storms than the massive cold front moving throught the U.S at the current moment. So.... if anyone gots a topic close to home.... or if you have any questions about your weather or weather in general let me know.

Several svr weather watches for the NE in response to the inactive cold front moving through the area. This is a fast moving cold front with svr weather warnings moving in rather quickly. Small hail and winds great of 50 knots is possible inside the boxes.

In the NW Isolated snow showers are possible with the arrivial of a Maritime Low Pressure moving on shore. Snow showers are likely in higher elevations away from populated areas.
In the SE this coming weekend will be hot and humid with some relief coming from the cold front bringing svr weather to the north and scattered thunderstorms inland. Starting Sunday afternoon though for much of florida a noreaster type system will be bringing strong NE winds in from the ocean sustained at 20 gusting to 30 and possibly 40 knots for next week. The carolinas will expierence winds but believe not as strong as the due to the cold front pushing our 98L-noreaster out to sea.

Record heat in the NE.
While we come up on the one year anniversary for Arborgedden buffalo NY recieved the exact opposite today with a temperature of 87 degrees!
... Record high temperature set at Buffalo...
a record high temperature of 87 degrees was set at Buffalo at 105
PM EDT this afternoon. This shatters the old record for September 25
of 82 set in 1908.
It was also the warmest temperature so late in the season since
September 28 1959 when the Mercury reached 89.
This unheard of! I never remember it that warm this late in the season. Goes to show how unpredictable weather is.
Blah blah..... Fall is coming tom.
Even after a few cups of coffe. And some breakfast I am still finding it rather difficult to keep my eyes open. Therego I'm making this blog. LOL It'll kill off sometime.
Weather for today: A cold front is moving across the appalachian mountain range today brining a few rain showers for the NE. It will be followed by a surge of cold air associated with the Continental Polar airmass dominated by high pressure. Some inland areas in the NE could recieve a light frost tom. night.
Out west a unseasonal cut off low is still bringing in some precip for southern cal. Flood warnings have been issued and in the mountain ranges several winter advisorys have been set for the higher elevations. Its starting to be that time of year where the mountains will recieve some snow.
The fall foilage is starting to set in in places in the rocky mountains and the NE. Just in time for fall!

For florida its another typical day. On flow showers has already brought some rain to coastal areas this morning. This afternoon some thunderstorms are possible as daytime heating progresses. Nothing compared to the last several days though with 40 knot winds and tornados in several countys.
Invest 94.

Invest 94 is another tropical threat for the gulf coast. Its still a while to decide what it wants to do. Its impact on the U.S will haft to do with the same high pressure bringing cold air to the north. If it lifts. The gulf coast could see something. Of it stays then the low will shift south.
If anyone read that all the way through I give you kudos. LOL
That cloud looks like a bunny!

Ya boredom...
For most people weekend is a time of happy fun rejoice! For me it means I have 36 hours of work ahead. Yes fun fun fun. I get to look at the clouds all weekend. So help keep me busy and make time pass!

Another storm hitting florida.... how unexpected.(sarcasim)
My wife is getting blown away!

Buffalo Sabers set to Play Outdoor Game
For the second time in the Modern NHL there will be an out door hockey game played. It will be held at Ralph wilson stadium (thats where the bills play) and 73K will be in attendance. Tickets went on sale this morning and they Have already been sold out.
This shows the true passion of buffalo hockey fans. Heck I would love to take leave and go home and at least chill in the cold out in the parking lot and tailgate. (Sabers fans really know how to party.)
The time and place is.
Jan. 1 - Outdoor game: Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Buffalo Sabres at Ralph Wilson Stadium, Buffalo, N.Y.
This will be the most attended hockey game in NHL history and sabers fans are that much more proud to have it in our back yard!

Staduim during the college hockey game featuring michigan that sabers Ryan miller played in.

One fun day for NE FL.
Yap yap its great fun. Flood warnings roads closed. About a dozen swift water rescues in the city of jacksonville.
When you see a river in the middle of the road!! Don't drive through it!
I'm sure most of us know that but it seems the general public has a hard time getting that concept. A well the next few days are going to be an exiting one. The ships in the basin here at the base are bouncing all over the place. Sure would be a terrible day to have partol duty out there in the boat. I'd be puking.
Well I'll have pictures of today when I get home for now I get to send out fun obs like this!
METAR KNRB 171955Z COR 04019G29KT 6SM BR BLPY FEW008 FEW015CB BKN030 OVC050 25/20 A3010 RMK PK WND 04029/53 CB SW-SE MOV W SLP191 T2SET T02500200
That does say that theres a 29 knot wind. And that the wind is so strong its blowing water in to the air near the beach and actually reducing vis! Tons of fun.
The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued a lake
Wind Advisory... which is in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening.
Strong northeast flow will bring sustained winds of 20 to 25 mph
and gusts of 30 to 35 mph to coastal southeast Georgia and northeast
Florida today.
A lake Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds of 20 to
25 mph or gusts of 30 to 39 mph are expected. Small boats will be
especially prone to capsizing. Boaters in the advisory area
should avoid open water and stay close to shore in wind protected
inlets. High profile vehicles should use extra caution when traveling
as well.
First Snow forecast of the season!!!
Ya two blogs in one day I know I'm bored.
Anyways its that time of the year to get some winter weather forecasting in. I'm originally from Western New york so thats where I'll be forecasting raght now. But if theres another location let me know!
Winter weather forecast. September 13 2007
Tonight a cold front will bring thunderstorms and heavy rain to the area. According to the prog chart below the occulusion to this front is located clear up in northern quebec. This is a good indication or cold temperature to come.
In this Link via NWS it shows the passage of the cold front due to the wind shift the temps dropping and the sudden decrease in cloud coverage to 0% coverage. This will allow for heavy radiational cooling saturday night and early sunday morning.
So make sure to cover outdoor plants becuase there will be a frost in inland areas away from the lake. I would be very suprised if a frost warning is not issued for tommorrow night for much of WNY and nothern PA.
For example most of the upper mid-west is already under a frost forecast. This is going to be the same to the east.
The best news out of this is that it will warm back up to the mid 70s by mid next week and all the annoying bugs that have pestered you all summer will be gone! Hurrah the most refreshing part of a frost forecast.

Friday! Its been a hell of a week!
This week sure has been eventful. In most of our eyes its just another week we had a hurricane but in my eyes it stuck out like crazy.
Monday: I studied all day.. We had three invest! Thats some interesting stuff. Gabrial was taking her last breath. Probaly the most boring day out of the 5 though.
Tuesday: September 11, Ok it's odvios this day sticks out. This day sticks out even more if one is in the military. Gun shots will catch you off guard in the middle of the day in salute of our fallen friends. Same day then four star general in IRAQ said that we should be pulled out of IRAQ by next year. THANK GOD!!! This is the man to believe not BUSH. Bush is politics, this man is honor.
Wednesday: Study Study Study!! yes that was my day. Well adding on that we had two tropical depressions named at the exact same time in the atlantic. Neat stuff! But then adding on the suspense we had a Tropical storm named in the gulf. Humberto cuaght us all off guard and I will be one forecaster that will sit back and say I feel like a foolish idiot. My co-workers that I gave the wednesday morning brief too will forever look back on that day as the day I admited I was wrong. LOL
Even more exitment though. The gate way to hell seems to be in Mayport fl since we had a rotating wall cloud over the area and a funnel cloud tried to form. It was nasty. We had 40 knot wind gust here at my station and downed power lines and trees were all over the area. Just ask reeldrlaura.
Thursday: Early in the morning we all shook our head and went what? Hurricane Humberto? Well not to much more to say about that. I took my advancment exam in the morning. Its two hundred questions on weather and the Navy that will make your head spin. Tons of fun! I can't wait to take it again in 6 month becuase I know I did not advance.
Friday: Well I don't know just yet. A new airman is going to be working in the weather office with us. So lets see how it goes! Anyone else wants to make my day exiting help me out!

Fun Weather facts
Put them in if you have them! I need to stimulate my brain today. Have a big test Thursday Morning so I'll be studying most of the day. So if anyone has some facts about Naval weather or oceanoghraphy or code reading let me know.
Also if you have any random off the wall facts those are welcomed too.

People unaccustomed to accepting responsibility
are hesitant to make decisions for fear of being wrong.
You should recognize that as a natural feeling.
However, you must make decisions even if they are
wrong on occasion. When you realize you have made a
wrong decision, admit your mistake, accept the
responsibility, and take steps to avoid repeating the
error. That will increase the respect of others toward
you as a leader.

Patriot Day
Six years ago today I realized I was going to make a career out of the military. I do realize I'm not on the front lines but I have seen many friends come and go. A few friends from back home did not come back though. I don't know why we are in our current war. I feel that we need to come home. Yes you can argue with me all day that were helping over there and yes we are. But at what cost? Our friends, family, neighors?
Today we should remember though. We should use our expierence of terror and horror for a better future. Just remember.
WE WILL NEVER FORGET.

Well anyways busy week navy exams are this coming thursday and the soccer season starts so fun fun!
While studying for my exam I came across this bit of info.

I feel it can be greatly applyed to forecasting.

Please God don't let this happen to me.

Getting ready for winter.
Well September is upon is and winter is fast approaching. A few locations in the Rockies have already experience their first snowfall of the year. I know that to most in the south this blog entry is premature but with the one year anniversary of Arborgedden approaching. The storm that took my home town of Buffalo by surprise last year and knocked out power in many areas for several weeks and plus the terrible damage to the wildlife, it leaves me to safely say winter is not to far way. I found some good links via NWS and a few other sources that I feel you may find interesting if you’re not used to snow.
Plus remember any questions when the time comes I'll be more than happy to answer all winter weather related questions and forecast.
Rob
Winter Storm Warning: Issued when hazardous winter weather in the form of heavy snow, heavy freezing rain, or heavy sleet is imminent or occurring. Winter Storm Warnings are usually issued 12 to 24 hours before the event is expected to begin.
Winter Storm Watch: Alerts the public to the possibility of a blizzard, heavy snow, heavy freezing rain, or heavy sleet. Winter Storm Watches are usually issued 12 to 48 hours before the beginning of a Winter Storm.
Winter Storm Outlook: Issued prior to a Winter Storm Watch. The Outlook is given when forecasters believe winter storm conditions are possible and are usually issued 3 to 5 days in advance of a winter storm.
Blizzard Warning: Issued for sustained or gusty winds of 35 mph or more, and falling or blowing snow creating visibilities at or below ¼ mile; these conditions should persist for at least three hours.
Lake Effect Snow Warning: Issued when heavy lake effect snow is imminent or occurring.
Lake Effect Snow Advisory: Issued when accumulation of lake effect snow will cause significant inconvenience.
Wind Chill Warning: Issued when wind chill temperatures are expected to be hazardous to life within several minutes of exposure.
Wind Chill Advisory: Issued when wind chill temperatures are expected to be a significant inconvenience to life with prolonged exposure, and, if caution is not exercised, could lead to hazardous exposure.
Winter Weather Advisories: Issued for accumulations of snow, freezing rain, freezing drizzle, and sleet which will cause significant inconveniences and, if caution is not exercised, could lead to life-threatening situations.
Dense Fog Advisory: Issued when fog will reduce visibility to ¼ mile or less over a widespread area.
Snow Flurries: Light snow falling for short durations. No accumulation or light dusting is all that is expected.
Snow Showers: Snow falling at varying intensities for brief periods of time. Some accumulation is possible.
Snow Squalls: Brief, intense snow showers accompanied by strong, gusty winds. Accumulation may be significant. Snow squalls are best known in the Great Lakes region.
Blowing Snow: Wind-driven snow that reduces visibility and causes significant drifting. Blowing snow may be snow that is falling and/or loose snow on the ground picked up by the wind.
Sleet: Rain drops that freeze into ice pellets before reaching the ground. Sleet usually bounces when hitting a surface and does not stick to objects. However, it can accumulate like snow and cause a hazard to motorists.
Freezing Rain: Rain that falls onto a surface with a temperature below freezing. This causes it to freeze to surfaces, such as trees, cars, and roads, forming a coating or glaze of ice. Even small accumulations of ice can cause a significant hazard

I love this diagram on lake effect snow. LOL
