Another above normal month.

April seemed to be a fast month,really went by quickly,well, seemed that way.We all know it went by the same amount of time as always.
Another month much above normal,finished about 4 degrees above normal,which continues this much above normal year.
April was split in half with a very warm first half and normal to slightly below normal second half. It continued below normal precip,but a heavy rainstorm,last week,kept it from being much below normal,but for the year,its still about 5 inches below normal.
Seems hard to believe but the 20 year anniversary for the Cosby show.Bill Cosby was one of my favourite comedians of my time,Phylicia Rashad,was so beautiful and was not someone you wanted to mess with on that show.

fall like weekend

So we are in for a very cool spell,more like October than spring.Temps in the 50's for the most part and night temps falling into the 20's and 30's.And the wind will make it feel even cooler. Next week the flow pattern becomes zonal so we should feel more like spring as the week goes on.
Our last week in April will be cool,but the month itself will be much above normal,to continue the pattern so far for this year.I don't expect May to be any different.We are still running very dry this year and at this point don't see any wet patterns in the future.
Redsox in Chicago continued to pound the ball,winning 10-3 last night.

cool spring weather

Looks like our stretch of cool weather continues right through the weekend.There is a deep upper low sitting over Labrador which is creating a nw flow out of canada,bringing cool weather to our region.Mid week next week,this cyclonic flow should weaken and allow some warmer temps to move into our area.Mostly dry weather this period except for a period of rain tonight,ending tomorrow morning,then cool windy conditions for tomorrow.
Our hockey team let us down last night getting knocked out by the Washington Capitals.They forgot what got them the Stanley Cup last year,but playing tough,hitting,and creating action in front of the goalie.Our top line flopped big time.Very disappointing.

cool,unsettled

System stuck up over Labrador will continue to keep us on the cool side and and occasionally wet.Next wet period will be late tomorrow through tomorrow night. We still need more rain,so not going to complain.
Everything is so far ahead of schedule,with leaves nearly 60 percent full,grass is long and green,shrubs like azeleas are ready to bloom.Really looks like mid May right now.
Bruins have their 7th game tonight,here in Boston,can only hope they continue.Most of the top seeded teams have been knocked out of the playoffs,except for the Rangers and Bruins.
Redsox continue a fun road trip so far,beating up on the Twins.Lets see how it goes from here.

Improving weather

so I ended up with over 2 1/2 inches of rain,much needed.Still way below average for precip this year,but certainly helps,puts down the fire danger and for one day it help the pollen sufferers.
Windy cool day with lots of clouds and a spot shower.Temps most of this week in the 50's to around 60.Chance of rain late Thursday and again Sunday,so unsettled and cool for the forseeable future.Don't look for any 70's or 80's in the near future.
Amazing snow pictures from NY yesterday.Golf courses where people were playing golf now covered in a foot of snow,and the golf carts buried in snow.

Much needed rain

So we finally got some much needed rain.In fact its still raining,although should end before noon.Heavy rain last night and some heavy showers through the morning,brings totals close to 2 inches in my area and some parts of new england close to 3 inches.
This is one of those spring storms which carries a little of everything with it.
1. Heavy rain
2. Strong Gale force winds along the coast.
3. Thunder
4. In WV,Penn. And upstate NY snow.
Some areas in southern new england have jumped into the 60's ,while my area is still in the 40's,but should jump up this afternoon with the warm front moving by.Looks to stay unsettled all week as this large system stalls in eastern Canada and sends energy rotating down across our area all week.
Our hockey team pulled out an overtime victory last night to send the series to the 7th and final game on Wednesday, and I won't even talk about the Redsox,after an embarrassing game on Saturday.

Drought coming to an end

We have been almost 8 inches below normal since the start of the year.Everyday brings fire warnings,ground is bone dry,so we need rain badly and it looks like we will get it this weekend into first part of next week.
A deep trough will be digging down all the way to the gulf picking up lots of moisture and a low will be developing in the north gulf and track up the east coast.This will bring up tons of moisture and it looks like it may dump 2 to 4 inches of rain over the area.In fact this may get cutoff from the steering and take its time moving out. The slow moving upper low will be around at least until the middle of next week.Don't be surprised if you see some snow in upstate NY as they will be on the cold side of this storm.

Tropical season and weather

Well,its about that time of the season when people along the coast start wondering what the upcoming tropical season is going to be like.Everywhere you look someone is making a prediction.The truth is noone knows.We are entering an El Nino event in the Pacific,which generally reduces the number of storms,mostly because it increases wind shear in the Atlantic,but noone should assume this will be an easy season,as the saying that is thrown around alot says, it only takes one to make it a bad season.
There is one invest out east of Bermuda trying to organize,but it really doesn't have a prayer,but it just reminds us that we are getting into that time of year.
Our weather has cooled off considerably today,temps in the 40's this morning and heading into the 60's rather than the 80's and 90's of the past two days.Still going to be above normal through the end of the week,before an extended period of beneficial rains set in, probably Saturday night into Monday.This is really needed as we are bone dry.Another high risk fire danger today.

Record heat for the Boston Marathon

It was a brutal day to run the Boston Marathon,up to 2200 runners decided not to run and the race organizers will allow them in next year.A kenyan man and woman won the race,but they both agreed it was a very tough day to run.Over 200 runners needed medical attention and 75 had to be taken to the hospital.They tried to provide as much water along the way and even had water mist tents set up,but for the inexperienced and even the experienced the heat was too much.Boston hit 87 degrees,but many of the suburban cities along the route were over 90.Congrats to all who finished and even those who were unable to finish.
So at my house we hit 91 degrees,but some surrounding towns hit 94 degrees.Cooler today,but still may hit 80,then 60's the rest of the week and cool and rainy for the weekend.Some very beneficial rains may be on the way.I better get my grass fertilzer down.
Redsox lost a pitchers duel and the Bruins edged the Washingtion Capitals last night 4-3,what is starting to turn a little nasty.

Local Holiday

Patriots day here in the boston area.Its a day we celebrate the first battles of the Revolutionary war.The battle of Lexington and Concord.
We have reenactments of the battles and parades.Also the running of tbe Boston Marathon,The redsox start their game at 11:05 in the morning.So its fun day with several parades around the area.
Going to be a tough day for the runners with temps up into the upper 80's, a few areas may even hit 90.It could be worse,but there will be a stiff wind and humidity levels won't be real high,but still not runners weather.Organizers are asking those that aren't really expert runners to sit this out and come back next year.I suspect you will see some runners collapsing,hopefully nothing too serious.

Well as predicted,it was a rough weekend in the midwest and central part of the country,but as far as deaths it could have been a lot worse,but any death is bad.So much damage though,so many people lost everything.
Woodward,Okla. seems to have suffered the only loss of life with 6 deaths,3 of those young children.
Our week will be above normal,although no where near the temps we will see today,and there appears to be a chance for beneficial rains by this weekend.Don't like to see rain on weekends,but we need it bad. We have another day of Red Flag warnings in the Northeast today.

Dangerous storm threat for the southern plains tomorrow

It looks like the southern plains are in for a rough ride this weekend,with the biggest danger tomorrow.

THE STORM PREDICTION CENTER IS CURRENTLY
ADVERTISING A SIGNIFICANT SEVERE WEATHER OUTBREAK IS LIKELY FROM
NORTH-CENTRAL TEXAS UP THROUGH OKLAHOMA/KANSAS AND INTO THE MIDDLE
MISSISSIPPI VALLEY. IN PARTICULAR...THE MOST DANGEROUS STORMS ARE
EXPECTED TO CONCENTRATE WITHIN A REGION STRETCHING FROM OKLAHOMA
CITY...OK NORTHWARD TO ROUGHLY THE I-70 CORRIDOR OF CENTRAL KANSAS.

Lets pray we don't have any death toll out of this expected outbreak.When you see a warning about a significant outbreak,this is something to sit up and take notice.I hope everyone in those areas are making preparations for shelter today.
We finally got rid of our pesky upper low last night.Yesterday we had some heavy showers and even some hail or ice pellets during the afternoon.
Today its all cleared out and we are going into the 60's,warmer over the weekend and into the 80's for Monday,which will not make the runners very happy.

Beautiful day for Redsox home opener,lets hope the outcome befits the weather.
I had to scrape the car windows this morning,the first time I've had to do that in a long time.
Sad story from our neighbors in new hampshire,a police task force sent with a search warrant for house in the small town of Greenland were fired at and one police chief was killed and 4 others were wounded.The sad story is this Police chief was set to retire next week.The shooter and another woman were found dead in the house later that night.
Prayers go out to the family of this brave police officer.

warming trend

After a very unsettled pattern all week,today will be the last day of this showery pattern,as the upper low that has been meandering around our area moves east.Tomorrow should be mostly to partly sunny in the 60's.May hit 70 on Saturday and into the 70's Sun. and Monday.Some possible showers on Sunday as a warm front moves through the area.A cold front should move through sometime Monday,timing is still in question.Still should be at least into the 60's for the running of the Boston Marathon.
Busy time in sports for our area,as the Hockey team starts their playoffs tonight with the Washington Capitals.Celtics season winding down with a few more games left before they start their playoffs. The Redsox come back home,home opener tomorrow afternoon,the less said about their start the better.

Dry,dry and drier

We stand about 7 inches below normal since the start of the year,and everything is bone dry.Everyday a brush fire springs up somewhere.
A few showers expected the next couple of days,but not much and scattered,so won't help much with the dry brush.
A pretty good warmup for the weekend and Monday which is Patriots day in Mass. and the running of the Marathon,could be warm.Those runners prefer it cool.The may get a cold front through on Monday morning which will keep it from getting too warm.
Always a big weekend in my area,as the runners arrive in the city,The Redsox game on Monday will be at 11:15 am in the morning,about the time the Boston Marathon starts.

Blocking

Spring seems the season when systems get spin and go no where.When blocking sets up in the Atlantic,it creates havoc with systems in NA.Systems don't know where to go and often go backwards.Thats what happen on the east coast,over the weekend a system moved off the east coast,but was blocked and finally backed into the canada northern new england area,and is just sitting and spinning.Not much precip,but lots of clouds and windy conditions. Another Red Flag day as we are bone dry and winds are expected to gust to 30 and 40 this afternoon.Weekend looks warmer.
Prince is a little better,but now what food he eats is going right through him and he has had a couple of accidents around the house.Poor dog has one problem after another.
I got the ceiling painted this weekend,all day Saturday and Sunday morning put a second coat on before leaving for Easter dinner at my daughters house. Nice to relax for a change.
Redsox started off the season with a thud,crash,and basically blowing up.obviously the objective this season is to score 15 to 20 runs and maybe have a chance to win.
Watched the Masters golf tournament yesterday and though I don't usually watch a lot of golf on TV,was totally taken with the excitement right to the end yesterday.

Friday

This has been a long week,with all that is going on right now.
1. The plasterer has finished the ceiling and walls.Next up I will paint the ceiling this weekend.
And hopefully get back into the room this week.
2. Prince is very weak,don't know if the heart pills he's on are making him sleepy and not eating well.Sad to see him struggling so much.
3.Our weather continues the cool feel,all the trees that were budding and flowering have come to a screeching halt.Weather looks to stay cool and unsettled through next week,although the weekend should be nice.
4. Redsox lost the opener,but they battled and overall,not a bad game,but with a lack of a real closer,they may lose a lot of games in the late innings.
5. Possible blizzard conditions in Montana today,talk about a slap in the face in Spring.
So get through this day and hopefully be able to relax a little this weekend after I paint the ceiling.Still battling the remnants of the previous cold and haven't gotten my strenth back yet.Boy a couple of weeks on a carribean island sounds good.

retrograding lows

retrograding low,sounds like the name of rock band,but this is something that occurs with us once or twice a year.When blocking sets up in the North Atlantic it tends to push things back at us.We have such a situation out in the Atlantic,so a low pressure system moving off the coast tomorrow,will move Northeast out to sea,but then run into the blocking and actually move back at us next week, creating cool damp showery weather for most of the week,These patterns tend to stay around for quite a while.Spring is famous for these situations.
Probably the most famous retrograding was with the famous Perfect Storm.
So at the moment April is staying normal or at times a bit below normal.
Redsox open in Detroit today,cool sunny weather.

Red flag warning

Another day with Red Flag warning,don't remember a spring with so many fire warnings.Thankfully people must be heeding the warnings,no major brush fires so far.
The weather for us is pretty much what we have been getting with no major rains in sight.This could be become a major issue it this continues.
Warm days and chilly nights is what we will see for the future right now.
Redsox open in Detriot tomorrow and expectations this year are slipping away.They just don't look good,and now they have lost their closer.I just don't really care to be honest.

New month

So it seems like I've been away for a month,but really only 5 days,was planning on being back yesterday,but was out due to illness for me and Prince.
So lot to talk about.
1.Never again,I'll pay anyone to due the construction work,I enjoy doing work around the house,but not anything as big as what I did.It was a reminder I'm not in my 20's anymore. Got my ceiling down,got my electrical work done,I put up 6 recess lights in the room.Got the Blueboard up on the ceiling Saturday,and got the room ready for the plasterer who came in yesterday,but it almost killed me.I was so tired by Sunday night I couldn't even move.I'm the kind of guy that learns the hard way,it looks like a hard job to do,chances are its twice as hard as you think.
2. I had started with a scratchy throat last week,and as the weekend went on the throat got worse, and I lost my voice.So with all the dust,and hard work,I was down and out by Sunday night.
3.Prince has not been feeling well for several months,but tests have been showing nothing,and over the past month he had developed a dry cough,and not energy. Then 1 am Sunday night I heard him coughing and he couldn't settle down and was breathing heavy like he couldn't get enough air.Finally wife and I took him to the vet hospital about 15 minutes away, and we spent all night there while they ran tests.They discovered he has congestive heart failure, this is a progessive disease.They put him on heart medication which will and has helped alot.This medication should give him 1 to 2 years and keep him comfortable.So obviously called in sick yesterday.
So its been an eventful few days.Now back at work,feeling 60-70 percent,and lots of work to catch up.
Anyway,hope everyone is doing well and will catch up with everyone in time.
