U.N. takeover of the Internet must be stopped, U.S. warns

SUMMARY OF STORY

Democratic and Republican government officials warned this morning that a United Nations summit in December will lead to a virtual takeover of the Internet if proposals from China, Russia, Iran, and Saudi Arabia are adopted.

It was a rare point of bipartisan agreement during an election year: a proposal that Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin described last year as handing the U.N. "international control of the Internet" must be stopped.

I'm sorry if I have not been quite up to-date on my weather reporting the last few days. Some of you may know that I was in the hospital again from May 3rd to May 7th and have been finding out since that I seem to have a lot more health issues than I realized. This has made it very hard to keep up with my weather blog and photos. I've tried to set things up so you can still get the current weather related to the South Metro Twin Cities by clicking on the links provided. If you are a regular reader of my blog and would like something added that I've not thought of, please post a comment or send me a Wundermail message and I will try to add it into the blog. Please forgive me if I am not quick to respond. Thank you.

Note: This is a PBS (Public Broadcasting System) program available through our local Twin Cities PBS station TPT-2 over the internet. This program is 53 minutes in length and requires a broadband connection of at least 1.5 to 2.0 megabits per second to watch. The link will take you directly to the TPT-2 website so it doesn't use any of Weather Underground's bandwidth. The video works pretty much like a YouTube video.

I highly recommend this program as it shows the problems involved with forecasting tornadoes and the latest research being done towards giving more advance time warnings to help protect the public from these monsters.

Hi Don!

It appears you're already enveloped in quite the hazy, hot and humid your way. Hope you've recouped enough from your hospitalization, weeks ago, and the doctors have been able to correct at least some of those serious health issues that've plagued you.

Take care and cover should those serious t'storms make their way to your town or city. Thankfully, for now, our region of Mass. has remained unseasonably cool due to persistent overcast skies. It's really thrown our local meteorologists for a loop while creating those daily forecasts. Tomorrow's summer solstice is expected to finally bring us needed sunshine and record breaking high temps. For now, I'm just enjoying the peace and quiet inside until our own air-conditioner is needed.

Just in case any of you readers in the TC area thought this flooding danger is over, read this and be on the look out.

Flash Flood Watch
Statement as of 4:31 PM CDT on June 18, 2012

... Flash Flood Watch in effect from late tonight through late Wednesday night...

The National Weather Service in Twin Cities/Chanhassen has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of Minnesota and Wisconsin...
including the following areas... in Minnesota... Anoka...Carver... Chisago... Dakota... Goodhue... Hennepin... Isanti...Kanabec... Le Sueur...McLeod... Ramsey... Rice... Scott...Sherburne... Sibley...Washington and Wright.

In Wisconsin...Pierce... Polk and St. Croix.

* From late tonight through late Wednesday night

* rainfall totals of three to locally six inches are likely by Wednesday night.

* Flooding is possible in low lying and poor drainage areas. Heavy rainfall in short periods of time frequently cause urban flooding and can wash out rural roads. Any ground that is saturated will add to flooding potential. In addition to the threat of flash flooding... the heavy rains could also result in flooding along area creeks and rivers.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.
