Life Along Lake Michigan

Spring in Michigan, USA

Spring came early in March and then played a whole month's worth of April Fools. Frosty and dry prevailed throughout much of this month. What will May bring?

Today is my birthday, so I am working this morning and then making the drive to have dinner with my Mom and Dad and sister this evening. Steve won't be home from Chicago until later.

Recycling event is being held at our school tomorrow. I have a truckload of old computer equipment ready to take over for proper recycling. 10 year old computers are funny! They are taking up a ton of storage area in our basement and I am anxious to get them OUT!

25 degrees here this morning. Not a good temperature for the local growers. My plants have been in the garden here for many years and seem to tolerate the cold. I cover the hydrangea bush since it struggles each year to bloom anyway. Tulips are all finished - a full 3 weeks ahead of our local Tulip time week. Warmer temperatures are promised next week with highs in the 70's.

Happy Birthday!! Always a fun day, hopefully! Nice you can enjoy it with your family. And it is good you can get together with your family when your husband is gone so much. I am sure it means a great deal to your parents to have you do that too.

Your flip-flopped spring has made it hard for everyone's gardens! The plants aren't sure what to do next! Our spring has been pretty typical, I would say. Some ups and downs, but overall it has been about what we would expect year to year. I think the problem for us is that it just doesn't turn to summer soon enough, which can make people grumpy.

Our wedding is still slowly moving forward. I had the kids back in Macy's this week looking at mainly kitchen items, but still no real decisions. But I think some progress was made. Good, because I ended up spending most of my time with my youngest daughter shopping for a prom dress! Quite the multi-tasking trip for me! And we aren't finished with that either!

First day of May! It is starting out cloudy, but promises to warm into the 60's this afternoon. Extended outlook is for normal temperatures and precipitation in this part of the county during May. "Normal" sounds good for the month of May.

Starting out the day with a balmy 73 degrees here this morning. It is the warmest morning since our mild days of mid-March. The wind is blowing from the south and thunderstorms are scheduled to roll in a bit later.

The days of May fly by so quickly...summer is almost here! Hubby and I just booked a summer vacation trip to Italy. He has been several times while working, this will be a first trip for me. My parents conceived me while Dad was in the Army in the 50's, stationed in Austria. Should be fun to step foot on European soil where I "began." LOL I'm excited! We are going to Bologna...anyone been there?

I've been to Bologna.... I went in 1970 when I went to the Passion play in Obramagau. We drove over the Alps through the Dolomites, to Bologna for a couple of days and then went back to Seefeld, Austria for the rest of the week.
It is a wonderful area - very picturesque!
