Yep, new account, sorry about that, I had been planning on doing the move to this account for awhile. (some minor and annoying bugs and problems with my other account) ¬¬
Well here we go, a new blog, just for sunflowers. ^^
After some failed attempts the first sunflowers finally germinated and they are growing faster than what I thought they would. So the photos begin. :D
- Updates will be posted as the sunflowers grow. -
5/5/2010 - Sunflower seeds are now planted.
5/13/2010- All Sunflower seeds are dead, nothing, so I prepared a second batch, looks like I was right, I did a horrible seed selection. T_T
5/17/2010- Did a final 3rd batch with new seeds.
5/20/2010- The first two sunflowers germinate and by the protuberance on the little planting pot, soon there will be more. :)
5/31/2010- The sunflowers are growing... growing... growing fast! ^^ We have eight sunflowers on their way, in a few days they are changing home. :3
6/7/2010- The transplanting has been done and considering how harsh a transplant like that is the sunflowers are doing better than expected. ^^ Once they recover strength and get used to their new soil I'll start with the fertilizer, gonna feed them so they grow big and strong. :3
6/20/2010- Sunflowers are getting bigger, have grown more leaves and seem to have adapted to their home nicely, the trunks are still thin but I expect them to get wider soon, also, today is feeding time once again, LOL! ^^
7/3/2010- The sunflowers are happier, the tallest of the regular ones is 19.5in and the tallest of the dwarf ones is 5in and as of today two buds are beginning to form, huzzah! :0)
7/9/2010- In 6 days the regular sunflowers grew 4.5inches to 24inches each and the dwarf ones grew 3 inches to 8 inches each. :D
7/16/10- Tallest regular sunflower is 34inches, tallest dwarf one is 11inches, all four regular ones have buds with one currently opening, you can see the picture on the blog, one of the dwarf ones has a bud the other dont. They are all looking happy and healthy. ^^
8/1/10- The sunflowers (even if they were small) were a success, right now only 3 of the dwarf sunflowers are left to bloom, sunflower #1 and #8 are already gone and tomorrow I'll measure Sunflower #3 to see what was the height of the tallest sunflower. Right after the last flower blooms I'll start the process for the second sunflower adventure of 2010, stay tuned... ^^
8/2/10- The tallest sunflower reached a height of 52 inches, 4ft, 8inches, not bad.
8/8/10- Just two dwarfs left, so this generation of sunflowers is almost done, I have learned from my mistakes so lets see how my second generation does.
I'll keep updating and adding pictures.
All tips on sunflower grow and care are welcomed. :3
And if you want to say Hi go ahead.
Take care and thanks for reading my boring blog. LOL!
Cheers,
Jesus
Baby sunflowers are going up! ^^
The sunflowers moved from the little pot to the larger and decent long pot, they did loose some roots in the process but they are doing great compared to the other time I did this, only a day of sad plants, the next they were looking better and now(Friday) they seem to have gotten used to their new home. :3
Sunflowers growing fast (
JLPR2)
Looking much better and taller, you can clearly separate the regular ones from the dwarf ones. :)
Growing like crazy (
JLPR2)
Its as if someone pushed a button and the sunflower grew, they have almost doubled in size, well... the tall ones. :)
This sunflowers are still many days away from blooming.
Here comes the flowers, the first hints of happy yellow in the sunflowers.
Here comes the exaggerated amount of sunflowers pictures. :3 I just cant stop myself!
The first sunflower opened up, smaller than what I expected, but still cheerful and happy, its been raining all day so it was difficult to hold the umbrella and take a photo at the same time, therefore its a little blurry, the yellowish glow is probably a drop of water on the lens.
I can feel the bee's mouths watering close by. XD
A Sunflower's Life (
JLPR2)
A Sunflower's life from the day the bud become obvious, till the day it had almost opened, I'm sorry the GIF is a little jumpy, its just 6 images, I'll try to do one with more pictures in the future, my first attempt at a GIF image, how did I do?
The flower got quite the wash, today, when at 1pm a thunderstorm rolled by bringing with it 1-2 inches of rain, lots of thunder and wind. You can see the remains of such a harsh day as the flower is wet from its battle with the weather. :)
Leafs are nature's Stained glass masterpieces.
Having fun with the macro. XD
The sunflowers turned out to be rather small but that doesn't mean they aren't pretty. :3
Thunderstorm wet Sunflower, the second one to bloom.
The last of the tallest sunflowers is getting ready to bloom. :)
Sunflower Worship (
JLPR2)
This one is a frequent visitor. :)
It almost looks as if the sunflower is caressing the sun with its petals. :3
Drops of Temptation (
JLPR2)
So say the bees. XD
Last group photo of the first round of sunflowers of 2010.
Sunflowers are pretty all around and the clear blue skies we had today allowed me to take this picture. ^^
Another attempt at a B&W picture, this time of sunflowers.
Little guy with big dreams! (
JLPR2)
The second of the dwarf sunflowers, they ended up smaller than what they should be and because of this the center is not any bigger than a quarter.
The Search for Gold... (
JLPR2)
...is now over! :)
Little sunny after a rain shower, its been cloudy all day, I'm crossing my fingers for sunny weather next week.
It must be the Sun (
JLPR2)
Too bright for a flower. :0)
Sunflower #1 on a cloudy day, the rain finally stopped so I was able to get a decent photo, yet I had to blur my neighbor's house, let see if I can move the sunflower around.
What a mess I have on my head, but just you wait, I'll be pretty in a few days!
Opening slowly but surely. ^^
Watching the Sunset (
JLPR2)
Hey everyone! Its been awhile since I uploaded anything.
Here is one of three little fall sunflowers enjoying a cloudy sunset. :]
Well even though the sunset was a no show due to heavy clouds to the west this sunflower kept me company and made for some nice photos. :]
97L and the disturbance in the eastern Caribbean promise lots of rain, thankfully so far we have been lucky and I hope our luck continues.
Sunshine in the Rain (
JLPR2)
Very cloudy afternoon, but the sunflowers can fix that.
This cloudiness was related to an area that wasn't exactly 97L but its precursor, currently (OCT5) 97L's center is north of PR.
Happy little thing... (
JLPR2)
This is the second sunflower which bloomed yesterday just in time for cloudy skies and 97L's moisture and rains, you can see the cloudiness behind it.
Someone has those... :]
Maybe it was the breeze of the cloudy day?

Thanks for the pics and the update.
@GardenGrrl: Huzzah! xD
Yeah, they are doing just that. :3
I'll post a new picture of all of them later today, they are still far away from buds but they are on their way. :D
They sure do look happier in that last
picture. Keep up the good work. I see
sunny yellow flowers in your future!:-)
I'll be checking back often for updates.
Wow, that is sure something to be proud of 15ft! :3
Awesome!
I see you got lots of plans and uses for it XD
It seems the fish head did the trick. :)
Thank you ^^
I try my best at both.
Everything is fine in my side of the island, the problems happened in the SW corner, everything was fixed for today, sadly there were 5 injured persons but they were treated rapidly. How's everything over there?
The weather up here is HOT... very hot. Most of the time August is the worse part of summer so I am NOT looking forward to anymore weather with temps above the 105 F ... and our heat index will push things another 8 pts higher.. Our June broke all kinds of records and I would guess July had done the very same thing.
Our schools over here will start in two more weeks so my summer is just about over with..
What is life dumping or handing out to you?
una vez trate de plantar una girasol, pero ......
digamos que ya no esta! jajajaj
parece que a ti te fue mejor que a mi....
te felicito
My summer was broken into pieces, -.-
from late April til early July I was free, then I went back to the university to finish my second semester from July 7 til the first week of August, then I'm free again til the 23rd of august when i will start my first semester of my second year, yeah... its a mess XD
I have gone 7-9 times to the beach so far, if the weather permits I'll go a few more once I'm free. ^^
Yes it does, but at the end it pays out. :D
Gracias!
¿
jajajaja
salu2
asi ¿¿
Se ve bonito :P
Y el signo de interrogación: ¡! :)
Besides, there are so many varieties of sunflower they may be exactly the size they're supposed to be!
I'll tell you, though - as nice as those sunflower pics are, the palm you're using as your avatar is absolutely gorgeous. That is one fine photo!
:D thank you!
I love palm trees specially at the beach.
I'll buy one of the packages of sunflower seeds the sell as bird food, to see if I get different (and hopefully bigger) flowers. ^^
have to compliment you on your photography.
You've gotten really good at getting the
interesting shades and textures. Beautiful!!
Thanks for sharing.:-)
thank you!
Lots of practice, everyday I find a new angle and a different perspective. :D
Sunflowers are just excellent to photograph.
Theirs weren't as striking as yours, though. ;)
The title of each photo and the comments you include add tremendously to the overall experience of your blog. Great job - and thanks for sharing something so positive and joy-full.
Wonderful, I would love a field of flowers like that to do some landscape photos, but I'm happy enough doing macro photos of them.
Thank you for sharing those photos! ^^
:D! Thank you!
Its a pleasure to share and see what your guys think and its addictive too XD
Thank you for the nice comment!
Thanks so much for sharing this with us again this year. Hope to see some more photos of your lovely piece of the earth when you've had a bit of a break!
and Crowned Sunshine..... WoW!
Thank you both! :D
I'll try for the next generation soon, but I got to wait till the last dwarfs wither away.
Everything is good, lost power for 26hrs, 2 or 3 trees down and branches and leafs but nothing else. :)
I really got messed up after my storm back in 2005 and hope I never hear winds like that again. When I hear that folks I know have such about to blow over their heads, I get this churning feeling in my tummy.
So far only one has bloomed.
adn you should update this blog to what is going on with you now, been growing anymore sunflowers?
