Huskymaniac's WunderBlog

I have continued to avoid forecasts and models but people feel compelled to tell me what is in the forecast anyways. The latest I heard was three inches over the next 4 days. That will send water gushing into the basement yet again. The sump pump is leaking and the system I installed sprung a leak in the last storm. I'm not sure if the leak is new or if it was just uncovered by the faster water flow into the basement. It has never come in as fast as it did in the last storm. That seems to be a recurring theme this year. It just gets worse and worse. April was worse than March and March was worse than 2006 when Ernesto came through. Then the combination of Irene, a cold front and Lee was worse than May. I don't like the trend, at all. I'll bet this will set a record for rainfall in September.

I am pretty much going to avoid forecasts today. The last one I read was scary as it forecasted up to 6" of rain for this area which would definitely cause massive flooding. I still find that forecast to be hard to believe so I will stay hopeful that it won't be that bad.

The flooding rains from Lee are coming and my anxiety levels are sky high. We got 2" of rain Monday and they are forecasting 6" more. I will not look at the forecast again. I have done everything I can to prepare for such an event. If the pumps and/or generator fails, I guess I have to live with that. It sucks to be an obsessive/compulsive worrier.

So it is clear now that my problem is anticipatory anxiety. Not a good thing to have when the trigger is weather related due to the unpredictability of it. It would have been nice if they had kept the forecast for this week as being "nice" versus a chance of thunderstorms for every day for the next 16 weeks!! But, then again, it wouldn't give me an opportunity to deal with the core issue.

It has been snowing/raining heavily now since February. That's 4 months of heavy precipitation!!! I guess I was hoping that the weather patterns would change at some point. But now we are getting thunderstorms at 8AM. I guess I need to stop the victim mentality thinking and just surrender but it is hard to let go.
