.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that there was a hugh storm that built over Hermosillo early last evening. It grew and grew and by around midnight it was about the size of the state of Nevada. Without the southern flow in central Sonora it wandered out into the Sea just north of Guaymas in a northwesterly direction filling the Sea. At 5am this morning most of the storm had dissipated. There was still a squall line still producing thunderbumpers from around San Franciscito bay to Puerto Panesco.
None of the reporting stations or airports reported any rain accumulations last night.
The rest of the Sea south to around Puerto Escondido have seen some remnant clouds from this storm during the night and early morning hours. Here in the cove it we had some remnant clouds at sunrise that painted the flat bay shades of pink. orange and fuchsia.
The cape area is relatively clear this morning.
Looking now south to the Mexican Riviera where numerous large storms developed over central Mexico early this morning and moved toward the west coast. Puerto Vallarta south to Acapulco is overcast this morning and I’d have to guess that many locations in that stretch had at least some showers this morning.
The Tehuantepec has had and still is seeing passing thumpers move over the Gulf during the night.
Looking not at the ITCZ/Monsoon trough where 4 days ago the monsoon tough was up around 16N, this morning it is back to where we normally see it at this time of year around 8N.
I am unable to locate the tropical wave that was headed toward Costa Rica yesterday. Perhaps today it will pop up here in the Eastern Pacific basin. We’ll see?
If it does find a nice lonely low to stimulate in the region it’s very possible that we could see some tropical development down there. Again, we’ll see?
Before leaving the region I wanted to mention that without the southern flow in Sonora for the next couple of days those storms that develop over Sonora will drift west and into the Sea. You can’t forecast these storms but once we see them start to develop we can issue advisories. Unfortunately all this happens about the time we go to bed. So keep a weather-eye out during the night for building winds and respond appropriately.
OK, that’s it for our hood, so looking now north to the west coast of America where is weak system has dipped down from the Gulf of Alaska and is keeping the streets of Portend and Seattle wet today.
Northern California south will see seasonally warm temperatures for the weekend.
Southern California will be warm, dry and breezy for the weekend.
Looking now over to the southwest where they can expect to have isolated showers and thunderbumpers through the weekend mainly in the higher elevations and along the Fence.
The high today in Tucson will be around 107. Next Tuesday it is forecast to be around 88. That’s a 20 degree drop. The reason is the monsoon will return with a vengeance.
Monday and Tuesday will be a warm-up for Wednesday and Thursday. They are expecting a very heavy thunderbumper day Wednesday with localized flooding a major concern.
Medium range models bring another wet impulse next Friday or Saturday so it looks like a very busy week in the southwest.
In a way that’s good news for those of us on this side of the Fence. Those storms moving north through Sonora will be on a fast track north and won’t linger and wander out into the Sea….hopefully.
Ok that’s what’s happening to the north of us. Back here in Baja today. The northern and central will see moderate southerlies today and tomorrow. Monday the winds will pick up to the 20+ knot ranges and the northern crossing will see buffalos romping around out there.
The southern Sea will continue to see moderate southerlies over the 3-day forecast period.
Taking a look out for next week especially the 4th of July. Right now it looks like Monday will be the last day of those strong winds. Tues through the end of next week (right now) look like moderate southerlies.
Temperatures today won’t be much different from the past several days and be in the mid to high 90s.
