A good start to the holiday weekend, fog starting to burn off, temp a pleasant 14C, to clear and hit the mid 20's by this afternoon. Similar conditions for the weekend, possible Tstorms by this evening.
The weather nice for this part of the world, friends south of the 49th not the case, extreme heat, little relief in sight. This morning large part of the country without electricity. The fog a minor statement when mentioning weather conditions.
Rob off to work, however is getting the next couple of days off, dosen't mind the hours, converts to cash. Emily remains in Quispam, returning tomorrow her summer employment starts on Monday.
Lobster gear now ashore, fellows will catch their breath for a bit then start overhauling the gear for next fall.

Bright blue sky, no wind and soft shell lobsters at $2.50 per pound. Yesterday 90% of my catch was shedders. The quantity is way out of whack with the calendar. Lots of problems in the processing portion of the industry when Maritime hard shells and large volume of shedders collide.
So, a wedding today on island, my Mom's 80th birthday tomorrow at her house, and we will return Monday to start another week of fishing on Tuesday. Both daughters are home for the events of the weekend with one boyfriend in tow. The other boy friend is still in C'Town for the summer. Emily will return there the latter part of August.
Great to have them home together, even better to see them with my Mom tomorrow.
Enjoy your holiday weekend. One day we will spend July 1 on GM.

I would say the guys here are pretty happy to have the gear on the bank, the actions of the critters not following the script, something in Mother Nature's bag is a changin. However one of the guys fishing the 'grey zone' expected 35 boats down there for the summer. The grey zone a contentious issue on both sides of the line. Hard to believe this is the eleventh season for our guys to be in the area.
No herring news to report, still no twine on any of the weirs on the front of the island, but is some indicaion that construction will soon begin. With cost of gear one dosen't want to put it out to the elements any sooner than nessecary.
My Emily still holding it down in Quispam, returns tomorrw, albiet with reluctance as she starts her summer job on Monday.Rob busy cleaning up after the gear has come ashore the boss has three or four boats and all hands give them time getting things put to bed.
Have a great 4th, local folks hoping for clear weather to take in the Fireworks Show from Eastport on Wednesday.
