Hi, folks!

Crones’ Tea at 3pm. Last Wicca 103 class at 5pm.

The computer says that it’s overcast, but tell that to the view outside my study window! Lost of bright pink in the retaining wall in with that beautiful new green of the rose leaves, lot of spots of gold and orange and purple in the herb garden….granted the sunlight comes and goes, but I wouldn’t call that overcast.

A towhee is in the tray that we put bread cubes on. The tray is empty, but he’s pecking up crumbs, anyway. Sparrows have been all over the seed feeder this morning. They’ve really lowered the amount of see. One tube is nearly empty. A raven just chased off the towhee, but he’s not finding much. There’s a finch on the feeder, now.

The radio spot went pretty well and they want me back! It was fun surprising Larry and Beth, too. They had no idea that I was going to be there, since I got subbed in on short notice. The link to listen to the show is up on the website and you can follow this one. http://www.kcup.net/pod/wednesday/WaldportTodayWit hLarryProfittAndKathyAmick6.20.12.mp3

Tempus got some shopping done and I have to get to chopping vegetables when I get home tonight. He helped me get the shop open and then took off for work.

I was pretty busy at the shop. People were in and out all day, mostly browsing. I need to get the small CD player set up so that people can listen to the sample CD’s. Right now, I have to put them on the very temperamental stereo!

I spent most of my time prepping herbs. A lot of the comfrey and the rest of the horehound were dry, so the grinder and mortar and pestle were going at a good clip. The drying rack is full again. When Tempus got back, I took a nap and then got back to work in the herbs.

I was so exhausted that I walked in after we closed the shop and crashed, so I missed esbat. Tempus says that they did more discussing than run-through, but everyone has tasks to do.

Today, I have more of the same, then there’s a meeting about setting up the Web portal for the South County area, then the Crones’ Tea, then the last 103 class.

The shop opens at 10 today, and we’ll be there through class time tonight. Summer hours, 10am-7pm, Wednesday through Monday. If we’re supposed to be closed, but it looks like we’re there, try the door. If it’s open, the shop’s open!

Love & Light,
Anja

Today
The Moon is New at 8:02am. New Moon - Named as such in calendars. When doing “New Moon Magick” use the day of, the day before and the day after. New Moon - The beginning of a new cycle. - Keywords for the New phase are: beginning, birth, emergence, projection, clarity. It is the time in a cycle that you are stimulated to take a new action. During this phase the new cycle is being seeded by your vision, inner and outer. Engage in physical activity. Spend time alone. VISUALIZE your goals for the 29.6-day cycle ahead. The new moon is for starting new ventures, new beginnings. Also love and romance, health or job hunting. Phase ends at 8:02pm on Wednesday. Waxing Moon Magick - The waxing moon is for constructive magick, such as love, wealth, success, courage, friendship, luck or healthy, protection, divination. Any working that needs extra power, such as help finding a new job or healings for serious conditions, can be done now. Also, love, knowledge, legal undertakings, money and dreams. Diana’s Bow – On the 3rd day after the new moon you can (weather permitting) see the tiny crescent in the sky, the New Moon holding the Old Moon in her arms. Begin on your goals for the next month. A good time for job interviews or starting a project. Take a concrete step!

This is the time of year when the Little Dipper floats straight upward from Polaris after dark — like a helium balloon (I sometimes think) escaped from a summer evening graduation party.
New Moon (exact at 11:02 a.m. EDT).
Jupiter (magnitude –2.0) is coming into view deep in the glow of dawn.

Celtic tree month of Duir Oak - Jun 10 - Jul 7 - The oak of myth and legend is the common oak (Quercus robur L.). It is sometimes called the great oak, which is a translation of its Latin name (robur is the root of the English word "robust"). It grows with ash and beech in the lowland forests, and can reach a height of 150 feet and age of 800 years. Along with ashes, oaks were heavily logged throughout recent millennia, so that the remaining giant oaks in many parts of Europe are but a remnant of forests past. Like most other central and northern European trees, common oaks are deciduous, losing their leaves before Samhain and growing new leaves in the spring so that the trees are fully clothed by Bealltaine. Common oaks are occasionally cultivated in North America, as are the similar native white oak, valley oak, and Oregon oak. Oaks are members of the Beech family (Fagaceae). Curtis Clark

Quotes
Perfection consists not in doing extraordinary things, but in doing ordinary things extraordinarily well. - Angelique Arnauld
Self-worth comes from one thing - thinking that you are worthy. - Wayne Dyer
She was beautiful, but she was beautiful in the way a forest fire was beautiful: something to be admired from a distance, not up close. - Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett (Good Omens)
Sincerity is not a test of truth. We must not make this mistake: He must be right; he's so sincere. Because, it is possible to be sincerely wrong. We can only judge truth by truth and sincerity by sincerity. - Jim Rohn

STORM BATTLE
Blue gray storm clouds covered the sun
I see them floating about and getting thicker;
they look threatening and fierce,
ready to destroy us with their storms.

We look small below them and unimportant
they can smush us with cold rain and hail,
frighten us with their thunder
and the spears of the lightnings they send.

I can see behind the clouds! There are warriors,
blue gray warriors hiding, ready to spring
throwing their spears, pelting us with hail,
flattening the earth so they can rule again.

It must be the Norse warriors... the fiercer ones,
not the bright Valkyries on their flying horses.
Perhaps they are enemies, let us call;
call to the Valkyries to protect us!

Here they come, whirling around on their steeds,
bright hair swirling, battle cries with high notes,
fighting the dark, fierce warriors
who would destroy us with the thunder and hail.

What beautiful armor, white winged horses,
bows and arrows, runes on their armbands...
swoop down so I may ride behind you
let me be a battle-maiden too, serving Freya!

Teach me your battle-cries, paint my face with runes,
proud warriors! May I be your sister?
Like glittering Brisingamen, the sun shines again,
glowing upon your armor...

The shadow warriors dissipate, the clouds roll away,
the Valkyries have won the battle.
My warrior sisters must fly back to Valhalla,
but they will come for me in the dream-time. - © August 2005, Beth Johnson (Mystic Amazon)

Magick – Litha
GOOSEBERRY FOOL -
4 cups Gooseberries
1/4 cup Water
2 cups Sugar
Whipped cream
1) Cook gooseberries in water until done (or you may use the equivalent of canned gooseberries).
2) Mash gooseberries in blender or food processor.
3) Beat sugar into hot gooseberries.
4) Cool mixture in fridge or freezer
When cold, mix with stiffly whipped cream and pour into sherbet glasses for serving.

Faery Cookies
Make a batch of Shortbread or Sugar Cookies, and give them lots of glittery sprinkles! When you go into the garden, or woods, share them with the fairies and the little ones. Here’s a recipe for shortbread followed by the method for decorating.
Irish Shortbread Cookies - Mrs Pearl Kells of "The Arches", Drumyouth, Arva, Co. Cavan, Ireland.
Yield: 30 cookies
1cup butter, softened
1cup granulated sugar
2 cups white flour
1 teaspoon salt.
1. Mix butter and sugar until well blended.
2. Work in the flour and salt.
3. If the dough is too dry, add 1 to 2 tablespoons more butter.
4. Roll 1-inch thick on a slightly floured board.
5. Cut into rectangles approximately 1-inch by 2-inches.
6. Prick each rectangle with the tines of a fork.
7. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 18 - 20 minutes.
Faery Cookie Decorations -
Summer coating or chocolate (Wilton’s Candy Melts™ are a good option here)
Edible glitter, colored sugar or raw sugar grains
Optional – flower-shaped sprinkles or candies
1. After cookies are cooled enough to handle, fill a two cup microwave-safe measure ½-way with the chocolate or summer coating.
2. Fill a saucer with the glitter, etc.
3. Fill another saucer with the sprinkles or candies.
4. Melt chocolate, etc. in the microwave, one minute at a time, stirring each time with a heat-proof spoon. It may take 3-5 minutes for the chocolate to be completely melted.
5. Dip each cookie end on quickly into the melted chocolate, then immediately press one side into the glitter and the other into the sprinkles. If you have candies instead, pick one up and hold it to the cookie. If it doesn’t stick, dip it into the chocolate and quickly press into the cookie.
6. Let cool thoroughly and store in fridge (or cooler) until serving.

Silliness - GCF: How the Government Works

Once upon a time the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of a desert. Congress said, "Someone may steal from it at night." So they created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job.

Then Congress said, "How does the watchman do his job without instruction?" So they created a planning department and hired two people: one person to write the instructions, and one person to do time studies.

Then Congress said, "How will we know the night watchman is doing the tasks correctly?" So they created a Quality Control department and hired two people: one to do the studies and one to write the reports.

Then Congress said, "How are these people going to get paid?" So they created the following positions: a time keeper, and a payroll officer, then hired two people.

Then Congress said, "Who will be accountable for all of these people?" So they created an administrative section and hired three people: an Administrative Officer, Assistant Administrative Officer, and a Legal Secretary.

Then Congress said, "We have had this operating for one year and we are $38,000 over budget. We must cutback overall cost."

So they laid off the night watchman.
