I Declare Hurricane Season Unofficially Over!
Hmm, nice to have a few visitors since the Hurricane unofficially came to a close in my area when the water temps dipped below 80!
I guess you can say I've been hiding. This time of the year I get ready for hunting season and spend a lot of time in the woods trying to fill the freezer with some deer meat!
For the most part when I'm deer hunting I spend a lot of time observing the beauty of nature. If you've never tried it and love the outdoors you should sit in a forest one morning about an hour before sunrise. The forest then is completely quiet except for maybe the breeze blowing. As daylight starts to move over the forest it slowly comes alive with the sounds of nature; birds chirping, squirrels jumping from tree to tree, woodpeckers hammering, chipmunks running across the forest floor, turkeys pecking the ground, or an armadillo meandering along. It's my favorite time of the day when I'm hunting. Even if I don't see a deer I always enjoy the experience.
Ok, these pictures are from this summer but show some of the things I observe in nature on the beach! I'll try to get some more current pictures soon! Thanks for stopping by everyone, I'll try and do better at keeping it more up to date!

Nice boat!
Too close during Hurricane season. My boat is parked at our community dock. My house isn't right on the water, it's across the street from the water front houses, no more than about 200 yards from the water none the less. That water way is Santa Rosa Sound, the barrier island Santa Rosa Island is between there and the GOM. The water still rises considerably through the GOM passes during tropical systems. I'm halfway between the pass in Destin and the pass in Pensacola.
Nive Avatar. Are you a Vikes fan or originally from MN? I live in Mpls. I am generally a lurker as I use this site for info on hurricanes in regards to N. gas prices. But your Avatar always peaks my interest.
ssmate.
Check your email.
Yep that was me! Was a great weekend on the water! So what does your boat look like again? I swear, with so many people on this site from the Emerald Coast I'm going to meet somebody from this site one day!
Hey, thanks for stopping by! Got the pics up now, wow, IKE's storm surge is way higher than Gustav's and Gustav actually passed closer to us. Just goes to show you what affect a larger slower moving storm can have.
I'm 6 miles east of Navarre in Mary Esther, the western suburb of Fort Walton Beach. I'll have more pics soon as I'm going home for lunch which will be very close to high tide time at my house.
Will send you email re: boat. Rather not post info here. : )
I'll be around... updates on my blog. Later.
Still lots of standing water on OK Island this morning.... Luckily the roadway seems to have had no damage. Would hate to have a situation like we did in 1995 after Opal. People having to take shuttle boats across from Destin/Ft.Walton to get to & from work.
Me, I vote NO MORE STORMS for 2008!
I know, I saw that over the weekend! It seems the water washed over and then left ponds/lakes that will take a while to dry up. Pretty amazing how high the water got here. I will second your vote for no more storms AND a break from this 90 degree heat! It's mid September, lets enjoy some cooler fall weather!
You will see my on Crab Island next year...
YOLOing! It is more fun than kayaking! Plus you can surf with it! I loved my time playing on it in the Bay... If you are really good... you can surf a boat's wake! *yeah right, I will never be that good! LOL
Thanks for dropping by.
What's a Viking fan doing in hurricane country?
Ya I know, Minnesotans love the water, but it looks like you have gotten more than your share.
Me, I prefer the snow and cold of Winter here in Minnesota. I have relatives in Florida (someplace). My name sake uncle used to have a farm down there.
We love to sleep over in that area on the boat. It is so relaxing....
Yep, I just got to pick out the board & I will be set for Crab Island 2009! Watch for the old lady on a SUP and you know who it will be! LOL
Anyway, just wanted to say hi. Hope all is well.
Au shucks, and here I thought I that I could talk you back to the land of the frozen tundra. LOL
Seriously I'm beginning to understand why some folks have Winter homes in the South and Summer homes in the North. Too rich for my blood though.
