GENERAL SUMMARY:
Weather Underground, a division of The Weather Company, is seeking a qualified Linux administrator and generalist to help maintain and move forward our real time weather application serving environment. The role encompasses traditional system administration activities such as server rollout, system builds and operational maintenance; broader systems-level responsibilities including networking and storage administration; and some special purpose functions in the areas of migration to cloud computing, system integration and build automation. A strong Linux administration background with experience in network and web serving operations is required. Shared operational support is required. Limited travel may be required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Linux system administration
- Build, configuration and maintenance of standard Linux environments
- Work with revision and source control systems
- Manage system updates, patching and releases
- Modify operational configurations in response to changing needs
- Create and modify configuration and other scripts.
- Coordinate and execute repair activities
- Systems management
- Work with development to field new infrastructure needs
- Manage vendor relationships and maintenance needs (e.g., certificates, HW maintenance)
- Maintain physical capacity and operational environment at colocation center containing approx. 250 servers
- Configure physical systems (server and dev/test) as necessary
- Other responsibilities
- Assist in migration of physical compute infrastructure to cloud and/or managed IAAS
- Assist in integration of Weather Company Technical Operations Center tools and processes into Weather Underground’s operations
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS degree in Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline and 2-5 years of experience OR MS
- 2-4 years of experience in related field equivalent experience
- Linux systems administration skills including system level programming (shell/Perl)
- Must have strong skills creating and modifying configuration and scripts
- Experience with back end production and web serving environments
- Fundamental networking skills and basic network troubleshooting skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work with minimal direction
- Experience with virtualization and cloud computing is a definite plus

GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Director of Product Management will develop, manage, and grow a portfolio of Weather Underground products to help redefine how consumers engage with the weather. Duties would include the steps of product strategy, planning, implementation and release. This role also requires a strong relationship with the development, marketing, editorial and content teams.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assess and create strong product plans for all prioritized programs for launch, coordinating with the development team and editorial
- Day-to-day management and operations of the Weather Underground media products, striving to ensure that we meet the needs of our users, our merchants/clients, and our strategic partners
- Support in the maintenance of an ongoing product roadmap and product schedule that supports business objectives, ensuring on-time and on-budget product launches
- Take responsibility for delivery, and ensure the project completes timely and with required functionality
- Work closely with other constituent groups to effectively and efficiently communicate product plans
- Generate new ideas to drive engagement
- Regular reporting on Web site traffic and usage as well as user experience
- Work with marketing and PR to increase depth of coverage of vertical
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of procedures, process, and best practices of experiences in the online media product management/development market
- Ability to multi-task a range of duties within a fast-paced, collaborative work environment
- Conversant in the online media market and a highly motivated self-starter
- Demonstrated in-depth problem solving and highly developed collaborative project management skills
- Proven track record of initiative – noticing and resolving inefficiencies, proposing changes, and implementing solutions as evidenced by project-specific work experience
- Evidence of depth of commitment to product innovation, a wide degree of creativity, and a positive attitude are highly desirable
- Team player with the ability to work without supervision when needed and to act quickly under deadline
- Experience managing high performing teams and developing defined career paths for team members
- Ability to develop product plans quickly and accurately with great attention to detail
- Experience with ad sales and editorial organizations in managing product & editorial calendars to meet sales objectives
- Collaborative and communicative work ethic
- Ability to achieve and provide key editorial value within a deadline-driven environment
- Ability to work independently under tight deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to take initiative and effectively prioritize efforts
- P&L Management a plus
- Experience:
- 8-10 years online experience and preferably several years of experience in the online media industry and marketplace
- Experience with launching websites from planning to release – strong implementation skills
- Preferred educational level:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited university – marketing / business
- MBA a plus
