...Change in wind chill threshold for watch warnings and advisories...
Starting December 3rd 2014 the threshold for wind chill watch... warnings and advisories will drop 5 degrees for the Blue Ridge of Virginia and areas west...western and north central Maryland...and all of eastern West Virginia.
These wind chill thresholds will become: * -10 degrees for wind chill advisories * -25 degrees for wind chill warnings
Wind chill watches will be for the potential of -25 degrees as well.
Counties and independent cities impacted by this change include: * in Maryland...Allegany, Washington, Frederick, Carroll. * In West Virginia...Pendleton, Hampshire, Hardy, Grant, Mineral, Morgan, Berkeley, Jefferson. * In Virginia...Highland, Augusta, Staunton, Waynesboro, Rockingham, Harrisonburg, Page, Shenandoah, Warren, Clarke, Frederick, Winchester, and the two new Blue Ridge forecast zones that will also come into existence on December 3rd 2014.
This is being done to reflect the colder climate in our western and northwestern counties and cities after a study of wind chill values over the past several Winters. This will align well with similar thresholds to the west and north of these areas in neighboring weather forecast office areas.
