Weather Underground Forecast for Friday, May 24, 2013.

Showers and thunderstorms will move into the Plains, while also continuing across the East Coast on Friday. A low pressure system over the Rocky Mountains will persist on its eastward track and move into the Plains. Flow around this system will create northward flow, pulling abundant moisture and energy in from the Gulf of Mexico. This will allow for scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop across the Southern Plains again on Friday, spreading northward through the Central and Northern Plains. There is a slight chance that these storms will turn severe across northeastern Colorado, into western Kansas and Nebraska. Large hail and strong winds are likely in these areas, with possibly a tornado or two.

Meanwhile in the East, a trough of low pressure and associated cold front will slowly move eastward and offshore the East Coast on Friday. This system will allow for showers and thunderstorms to persist from the Mid-Atlantic states through Maine. Severe thunderstorms are not likely in these areas, but periods of heavy rainfall and strong winds will persist as this system lingers over the Northeast through Friday night.

Out West, an area of low pressure continues spinning over the Pacific Northwest, maintaining onshore flow. This will bring more rain showers to Oregon and Washington, with snow showers possible at highest elevations.

Through 3 PM...expect a scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms across the coastal prairies and I-35 corridor counties. The heaviest activity will be from a line of thunderstorms that will move across the San Antonio Metro area to near a San Marcos to Kenedy line by 230 PM CDT. A few locations could experience heavy downpours over 2 inches...along with frequent lightning and wind gusts to 40 mph. Most areas can expect spotty rainfall amounts of 1/4 to 1/2 inch.

The National Weather Service in Austin San Antonio has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
west central Caldwell County...
east central Comal County...
western Guadalupe County...
Hays County...
Travis County...

* until 630 PM CDT.

* At 244 PM CDT... National Weather Service meteorologists have
determined thunderstorms training across the same areas will
likely produce flash flooding across the warning area. Heavy
rains of 1 to 2 inches have already fallen over parts of the
Austin Metro area... extending south along I-35 and to near
Seguin in Guadalupe County. An additional 1 to 3 inches of rain
will be possible before rain chances begin to decrease by
around 530 PM CDT.

* Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flash flooding to
occur. Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Austin... Dripping Springs... San Marcos... Seguin... Tanglewood
Forest... Wimberley... Bee Cave... Buda... Driftwood... Geronimo...
Kyle... Lago Vista... Lakeway... Mansfield dam... Martindale...
