Weather Underground midday recap for Tuesday, May 22, 2012.

Wet weather spread across the Northeast on Tuesday as a disorganized series of fronts stretched over the region. Moisture from the remains of Tropical Storm Alberto also flowed ashore, enhancing the intensity of the rain. Temperatures throughout the East were generally moderate despite the clouds, though relative humidity levels were fairly high.

Clouds broke up to the West of the Ohio Valley, where temperatures were warmer and humidity dropped off substantially. Temperatures were also warm in the Southeast and Plains.

Clear skies spread across the Rockies into the Southwest as well with the entire region under sunny skies with warm temperatures.

Clouds were back in the Picture in the Northwest where low pressure just off the coast brought rain to the to Washington and Oregon. Some of the rain along the coast and north of Portland was heavy, with several inches of precipitation reported just north of the city.

In the Atlantic. Tropical Storm Alberto had dissipated into a disorganized mass of clouds and thunderstorms by by Tuesday afternoon, though the storm was still churning up a significant portion of sea.

The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
Forsyth County in central North Carolina

* until 1245 am EDT

* at 937 PM EDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
thunderstorms with very heavy rain producing flooding over northern
Forsyth County. Doppler radar estimated that as much as 1 to 2
inches of rain has fallen over portions of Forsyth County during the
last hour

* locations threatened with flooding include Winston-Salem...
Kernersville and Belews Creek.

An additional 1 to 2 inches of rainfall are still possible resulting
in additional flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from the heavy rain will cause flash flooding of
creeks and streams... roads... low lying and poor drainage areas. Do
not drive your vehicle into areas where water covers the Road. Many
roads and intersections in the area will quickly flood. When
encountering flooded roads turn around... dont drown.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of floods and flash floods. If flash flooding is observed act
quickly. Move up to higher ground to escape flood waters. Do not stay
in areas subject to flooding when water begins rising.

* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for minor flooding of poor
drainage areas in...
Forsyth County in central North Carolina...

* until 1130 PM EDT

* at 917 PM EDT... the public reported thunderstorms with heavy
rainfall over Forsyth County. Doppler radar estimated over an inch
of rain has fallen since 830 PM EDT.


* Runoff from this heavy rainfall will cause minor flooding to
occur... especially along small streams... in low lying areas... and
areas of poor drainage. Some locations that will experience minor
flooding include... Belews Creek... Winston-Salem... Clemmons and
Kernersville.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from this storm may cause minor flooding of small
creeks and streams... urban areas... highways... streets and underpasses
as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

... Strong thunderstorms will move across Randolph... Guilford and
Forsyth counties through 1045 PM EDT...

At 935 PM EDT... Doppler radar indicated a line of strong
thunderstorms along a line extending from Walkertown to
Franklinville... or along a line extending from 6 miles south of
Walnut Cove to 6 miles east of Asheboro... moving north at 25 mph.

Locations in the path of these storms include... Randleman...
Colfax... Belews Creek... Stokesdale... Forest
Oaks... Summerfield... Lake Townsend... Kernersville and Greensboro.

Hazards include...
half inch diameter size hail.
Gusty winds of 35 to 45 mph.
Deadly cloud to ground lightning.
Heavy rainfall and minor flooding.

Seek shelter in a nearby building or vehicle. Strong winds are
capable of knocking down small trees and blowing around trash cans...
potted plants... lawn furniture and other light outdoor objects.

These storms will produce heavy rainfall... which will cause minor
flooding of low lying areas including ditches... creeks... roadways and
areas of poor drainage. Avoid these areas and do not cross flooded
roads. Motorists should also reduce driving speeds to avoid
hydroplaning.
